This is about as delusional as Clifford books get. Emily Elizabeth claims Clifford's dog food budget is driving her family to bankruptcy so Clifford tries to get a job in order to pull his own (very considerable) weight. But his job hunting escapades just prove that dog food expenses have to be the least of the family's financial concerns considering the number of lawsuits and insurance claims that must be made against them daily in the wake of Clifford's wave of destruction. He destroys an entire barn and silo at one point!

And for the happy ending he ends up on the police payroll. The cops need to be detaining this menace, not paying him in dog food for undisclosed services. What sort of black ops have been done by Clifford over the decades to ensure the steady supply of food and the cover up or brushing under the rug of his ongoing assault on persons and public and private property? Always reliable for a smile, Clifford doesn't disappoint. In this story, the cost of Clifford's food is putting a strain on Emily Elizabeth's family. Clifford decides to get a job to help with expenses, and hilarity ensues. ( )

Clifford the big red dog is a loveable character that has a whole series dedicated to him. In his book Clifford wants to get a job so he can pay for his TONS of dog food so that his family can keep him. Every job he tries he fails at because he is too big, until he chases and captured some robbers, and becomes a police dog who is paid in dog food! ( )

This is a story about Clifford the big red dog who takes the initiative to find a job so he can stay with Emily Elizabeth. He needs money to help his family pay for dog food, which he eats a lot of. But as Clifford finds out, being helpful is a difficult task for such a large dog like himself. Clifford has some misfortune with some circus hoops and a barn, but finds his place as a police dog. Cute story and illustrations.

In the classroom, this book would be a wonderful asset for students exploring what they want to be when they grow up. Discussions on being respectful, watchful, and a got-getter in the workplace could also be reviewed. ( )

This is a cute picture book about Clifford the big red dog trying to get a job that way he can afford to pay for his huge amount of dog food he eats. However, as we read we begin to discover it is very hard for Clifford to keep a job because he is just too big. In the end, he accidentally gets a job at by doing a good deed. Luckily Clifford gets paid in dog food!

This book is a classic, just like all of the other Clifford books. It’s a cute heart warming story.

In the classroom, I would use this story to discuss what the children of the classroom want to be when they grow up. I would also use this story to discuss the importance of responsibility and having a job.
