All are playful and informative, and in the back there's a glossary giving more detailed information about each bug. This book offers a fun route to learning about some nasty little critters that for the most part want to suck your blood. Nasty Bugs is a collection of 16 poems by different authors all talking about bugs. I liked this book because each page had a different bug to learn about and most of the poems rhymed. I think children will be interested not only because bugs are an interesting topic for them, but the illustrations are big and colorful; very eye-catching. I think this would be a good book to read to students in science class if they ever get to learn about any of these bugs. "Nasty Bugs" is a collection of poems by different authors about bugs. It creates a "gross facts can be funny" theme as each poem delivers factual, rhyming information about all types of gross bugs. I really liked this book for several reasons. First, the illustrations were bright, colorful and gave the insect a personality. For example, in Fire Ants, each ant is illustrated with an aggressive, mean look on their face as they head for an innocent cat. I also liked the fact that each poem was filled with facts, but in a clever rhyming way. For example, in Lice, the second stanza reads, "Older than Columbus, you reached the New World first. Proof lies in two mummies' locks whose life-blood quenched your thirst." Finally, I like this book because it contains "About the Nasty Bugs" section in the back of the book with even more facts and its scientific name. This book was funny, lyrical and so full of facts about bugs that one could use it for research! This book has a poetry selection composed of 16 poems that were chosen by Lee Bennett Hopkins and have been illustrated by Will Terry. The art in this book is very primary. The characters (bugs) have silly faces, and the illustrator used bright colors. I think this book would really appeal to younger children aged pre-K to 1st grade. There is some higher-leveled vocabulary, but my 2nd grade son thought it was a "babyish" book. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
