As soon as I read the synopsis for ReVamped I just knew I was going to like it and I was not disappointed. This not just another vampire story with vampires and werewolves, oh no! Dawn is a vampire, but she was not a turned vampire she was actually born a vampire which makes her a special kind of vampire. She learns that she will be sent on a mission and her mission is in Angel Creek. Vampires in this book do not hide in the shadows, they walk around like humans because mayors of the towns want vampires living in their town but there are rules to living in the towns, no turning humans, and no drinking from an unwilling human in exchange for this they are allowed to live in the town and are treated pretty much like celebrities.

This is a fast pacing book and very well written, although it did remind me slightly of the Sookie Stackhouse books. ( )

ReVamped ( Angel Creek #1)by Ada Adams

Ada Adams bring us a new and fresh look into the lives of vampires, it is refreshing, funny at times and well written. The words flowed easily, character descriptions were excellent, and you got to know each character well. All in all I would say this was an excellent read.

We are introduced to Dawn; she is the daughter of the President of the Vampires. In this novel Vampires are out and almost treated like we treat movie stars today. They are sought after, respected and envied by most, but of course there are some people who don’t feel the same way. Dawn is a Born vampire; Born vampires are special and have greater powers, being that both her parents are vampires. Dawn has trained her whole life and is a strong, independent young woman.

Dawn’s father sends her to a small town called Angel Creek to train a group of vampires who are going to become the town’s protectors. Dawn is so happy that her father finally trusts her enough to send her out on a mission and can’t wait to begin training. When Dawn arrives in town she gathers the vampires and realizes she is going to have to work very hard to get this group trained.

Here we are introduced to some new characters and all I will say is it almost appears that Dawn’s new group would fall under the category of the misfit vampires. Of course nothing goes smoothly for Dawn, a human is kidnapped, Dawn herself is almost taken and she realizes there is more going on in this small town of Angel Creek then appeared.

Dawn and her group of trainee’s work together to protect the town and find the girl and of course keep themselves safe at the same time. There is also some romance lurking in this story for Dawn we meet Ethan who is human and Sebastian who is a vampire with many secrets. Both of course are extremely good looking and Dawn who has never even been kissed doesn’t always know how to act around these two.

ReVamped is a great addition to the YA Paranormal genre, I have rated it a 4 out 5 and would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys reading about vampires. Ada Adam has brought us a new and fresh series for us to follow and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

ORIGINAL REVIEW AT: LITTLE BOOK STAR

Holy vamps. Seriously one of the BEST vampire books out there. It took me two days to finish it because it was just well written, and I felt like I was part of their world. I read this book without reading the summary or any reviews. Well, I saw a couple of bloggers on Twitter saying how much they loved it, and that was pretty much it. I went into this book without knowing anything except that it was about vampires. ReVamped is told from the female protagonist’s point of view, Dawn, a 19 year old who is the daughter of the vampire U.S. president. That’s right, a vampire U.S. president. Being the president’s daughter, he was very protective of her, and in this book, Dawn was given her first mission from her father, which is to recruit the 4 new guardian vampires of a town called Angel Creek. This book is where people and vampires live together, but with a couple of rules. There are two kinds of vampires, the one BORN and the ones that were MADE.

I love how the characters didn’t sound anything alike. They were all unique and had their quirks which made me laugh at times. They all had an interesting background which made me surprised. I really liked Dawn‘s character. She was realistic which made her relatable. What I love about her is that she doesn’t complain; she thinks positively no matter how hard or complicated the situation is. Sebastian‘s character was mysterious, snobbish and he often has mood swings, but there’s an explanation of why he is like that. Trust me, you won’t hate him. Ethan was just cute! He’s a bartender (or a waiter?) at a restaurant at Angel Creek who Dawn first meets. He’s so adorable and I actually want him to end up with Dawn. Yes, there is a love triangle, but it’s not one of those annoying love triangles just to have a love triangle in the book. The romance rocks! I love how it didn’t took over the story.

Now, the MisFits. These people are totally hilarious. They are called misfits simply because at first Dawn didn’t think that these teenagers that she recruited fits to be a guardian. I don’t want to go over these characters because I want you to find out their personalities as you read it. Brooke, a cheerleader recruited to be a misfit, might be annoying and stupid at times, but she adds humor to the story.

Although I enjoyed reading ReVamped, there was one thing I was confused about in Brooke’s past. I don’t understand how she was able to stay in high school since 1900′s, I believe, without getting caught? Don’t you need paperworks for transferring to a different school? Weren’t they able to catch her repeating her high school years? I also thought if people and vampires live in the same world, then how come vampires didn’t have their own school? Those are just some of my questions that were never answered, but I still loved the book! I definitely, highly, extremely recommend this to everyone especially if you’re looking for a fresh vampire read. ( )

When Ada requested some R&R (read and review) of her first novel, I did a little research before immediately going 'yay! books!,' because I am a grownup and capable of thinking before I act. Anyway, my brief research suggested that, although dealing with vampires, a subject even I am starting to get a bit skeptical of at this point, she might do something new and interesting with the topic. Additionally, ReVamped sounded like it might actually be funny, which was seriously encouraging. I am happy to report that my initial judgments were correct!

Actually, of all of the vampire novels I have read, ReVamped reminds me most of a mix of the Sookie Stackhouse series and The Reformed Vampire Support Group. The parts that reminded me of the former were largely in the organization of the vampires. They have a government, both local and national, although obviously not kings and queens here. In Adams' world as in Harris', the vampires have gone public. In both, this led to the production of non-human blood sources. Although, I definitely think that the vamps in ReVamped have a better deal, since they have tons of blood drinks to choose from, including Blood Vodka. Awesome.

As for the latter novel, which I didn't much like, the ragtag group of not very vampiric vampires was what brought it to mind. Of course, I didn't much like that book. Thankfully, ReVamped did that angle way better, because these characters did actually seem to grow and change through the novel. Plus, ReVamped was actually funny, and not just descriptions of feeding on guinea pigs.

Now, I do not want to imply that Adams is entirely derivative, because she's definitely not. She added her own unique bits of lore for the novel. For example, I am really fascinated by her distinctions between born and made vampires. In fact, I would love to have a discussion about the logistics of this. Mostly, I want to know how the born vampires first came into being, since they can only come from a born vampire. Of course, I can accept that, since it's really a chicken-or-the-egg argument.

Adams also did something pretty hilarious with the garlic part of the legend, although I'll leave that as a surprise. Another change from tradition to watch for are the werewolves. They made a definite impression. Additionally, I quite enjoyed Adams' writing style. I only wish that the book had had slightly better editing, as several errors got through to the Kindle version.

Dawn was a fantastic main character. She's so powerful; seriously, there are probably like two people in the world who could take her in a fight...if that. She doesn't need anyone's protection. However, Dawn is also quite naive. She's been sheltered for all 19 years of her life, which has the end result of making her act a little silly where boys are concerned. Even then, though, she doesn't do anything stupid, because she's a smart, cautious girl.

ReVamped was a great read, better than a lot of the vampire-centered books I've read. If you like strong heroines, humor and like to support debut authors, go get yourself a copy of this gorgeous new book. Seriously, check that cover! ( )

Wow. This book was so much fun! I genuinely loved and enjoyed reading it, especially the first half of the story. ReVamped is a very interesting and unique take on the vampire genre. Just when I think I couldn't possibly stand one more vampire book, novels like this one and The Immortal Rules start popping up and changing my mind. Ada Adams has definitely given us something new to read and I was left quite impressed by the end. The genre may be getting saturated but clearly some authors still have something new to offer us.

At nineteen, Dawn is slightly older than usual YA protagonists. She's been trained all her life by her father, who is the ''Vampire President'' and somewhat emotionally distant. At the beginning, I wasn't sure what to make of Dawn. On one hand, she thinks like she's way older than 19 (probably due to her upbringing) but on the other hand, she seems very naive and unaware of regular teenager stuff. I really grew to like her as the story went on and found she got easier to relate to. She doesn't let things get in her way and has a very determined spirit which is really admirable!

This book is jam-packed full of action and mystery. It really keeps you on your toes the whole way through. I read it in a couple of hours and barely looked up from it once. I just needed to know more! I really enjoyed following Dawn as she learned more about herself and her family and really didn't see most of it coming. I liked that it was unpredictable as it really keeps you rushing forward. Adams is a brilliant writer. Her writing is smooth and engaging. It was actually quite a pleasure just to read and get lost in.

I loved the world that ReVamped is set in. Humans know about vampires and have more than accepted them- they've embraced them! I loved all the pop culture references, including the vampire fad being the reason for it being easy for vampires to come out of hiding after so many centuries. Lots of little things about this world made me laugh and I had a smirk on my face for most of the first half. It was really clever and enjoyable!

I would recommend this to any vampire fans who are looking for something a bit difficult. I think Morganville Vampires fans would love this one- I sure did!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. All views expressed are my own. ( )
