souloftherose: Kat, Incorrigible is set during the regency period and Etiquette & Espionage is set during the Victorian period but both are books featuring a young girl who doesn't conform to society's expectations and both are a lot of fun to read.
This was a fun book. I haven't read steampunk before so this was a change for me. The names were a bit challenging at first, but they grew on me. The heroine is quite the character and I look forward to continuing her adventures in the next book. ( )
My kind of heroine. A complete klutz who's socially, if not inept, a far cry from being adept. The perfect melding of paranormal-steampunk-potboiler-mystery. Can't wait to read the rest of the series ( )
I admit to being such a huge fan of this author. While this was not my favorite book of hers, it was entirely entertaining. The main character is smart and nice and makes a great spy. ( )
What a blast! I'm not necessarily a fan of steampunk, but this drew me in and wouldn't let go. How does someone think of this? A finishing school for young ladies with lessons in eye-lash batting and advanced handkerchief management, all with an eye to intelligence gathering and murder. It's hilarious! The heroine is great, a bit tomboyish with a great heart, who learns to appreciate good clothing as well as poisoning guests. She makes friends in all kinds of places and is both practical and innovative. Some of my friends might be a little annoyed at some of the divisions of proper behavior between men and women (e.g. fighting with swords would be unladylike. A garrote, knife or fan on the other hand are perfectly acceptable). I think it was exaggerated on purpose, though, showing how ridiculous this is. I thought it was funny. The only thing I would object to a little is that apparently, there are no female werewolves. Seems odd to me, and not necessary, unless being a werewolf is also unladylike? Ah well, there is only one werewolf in the book anyway, and I can't be too bothered about it. I loved this book, it's hilarious and outrageous, and I can't wait for part 3 to come out (because I went out and got part 2 the very next day after finishing it). ( )
