The story just didn’t interest me as much and Sasha came across here as a bit too type A for me. For example, the attitude that “Fear of failure was just an unproductive emotion, an excuse for the weak” spoke to me of a kind of unsympathetic machismo, while statements like “you are not going to call your boyfriend like some hysterical female” struck me as oddly misogynistic. I still like Leo and enjoyed the book most when he was involved. I have the next book so I intend to give the series another chance but I’m hoping it won’t be too formulaic. It would be nice to see Sasha take on a more worthy opponent in the courtroom for example. She can’t be the only lawyer outside Prescott & Talbott who prepares for court, can she? ( ) I listened to the audible audiobook. This isn't a bad book, although I found the plot predictable. I rather liked the main character, attorney Sasha McCandless. I did not read the first in this series, but little depended upon that except for her first meeting with her current lover and unofficial "partner," Air Marshall Leo Connelly. Sasha is appointed to handle a case completely outside her area of expertise, which already seems rather unlikely. Although she is an attorney, this is not a legal thriller. She falls into become a kind of informal detective, essentially abandoning her personal, fledgling law practice in Pittsburg. I found the conclusion unsatisfying, wherein the villains essentially self-destructed rather than being unmasked by Sasha or the police through their investigative efforts. I had a difficult time getting used to Karen Commins' reading; her voice is rather harsh, and she has considerable difficulties portraying male voices. She also mispronounced a number of words. I probably will give the successor book, Irretrievably Broken, a try to see whether I would want to continue the series. Her client needed information so Sasha drove hours out to Clearbrook County to serve the papers. As she's getting ready to leave, the judge assigns her to a competency case. Her client is ornery and the town is full of corporate lawyers fighting on either side of the fracking cases. She hopes that it will be a simple case of blocking the county from taking over the old man's life. Then the judge gets killed and she's stuck investigating the death. I recommend this case to anyone who likes a battle between a determined lawyer and corporate bullies. I loved the first book in the Sasha McCandless series so once I found out that the second book in the series was released I immediately bought it. I am happy to say that this book did not let me down at all, in fact it exceeded my expectations. I'll try to describe just how great I thought this book was but words may fail me. Sasha McCandless is back and this time she finds herself in Cold Brook County for a trial and eventually ends up trying to figure out who killed Cold Brook County's only judge. This book is packed with suspense. Sasha even gets the chance to use her Krav Maga training again. She may be small but she packs a hard punch when faced with attackers and against opposing counsel in court. If you love legal thrillers or are a fan of suspense I would highly recommend not only this book but also the Sasha McCandless series. I am really looking forward to the third book in the series being released. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
