Genre: Informational

Review: This book reminded me a little bit of the story "B is for Beaver" in the fact that each page talks about a different symbol, monument, or historical sight that a state is known for. It doesn't go over ever letter of the alphabet or state, but it gives enough to be informational. This story is an informational story because of the tid-bits it gives us about states such as the forests of northern California, Alaskan eagles, the Pacific coast, The Rocky Mountains, etc. It's great for younger elementary to introduce these well known facts and information about different states.

This book is filled with rich and beatiful words and phrases. This book is written for young readers to be encouraged to explore tehir world but always remembering to come home. I would use this book in writing skill (words inspire vivid imagery), exploring, traveling, US. Because of rich language Grades 4+. SDA CAUTION: glossed over reference to Mother Earth, easy to edit ouf the text or change as its read aloud. The language is so beautiful you hardly notice the reference. ( )

This book is a good book to read to any age kids. It teaches the love of a mother for her child and also about different parts of the United States. You could also use this book to illustrate God's love for his children. ( )

The theme of this book is the everlasting love a Mother has for her daughter. Each of the poems connects a certain natural part of the United States to how the mother loves her child and what dreams, wishes and advice she has for her. The coves of the Pacific Ocean are like the mother’s promised shelter for her daughter, the New England trees playing dress up with fall leaves are a reminder never to stop playing, and the blowing grasses of the prairie are an example of how one might have to bend or stand strong against the wind depending on the season of life.
This is a fine example of poetry, because it uses symbolic language to express emotions and ideas. The sentences are shorter but paint pictures of the different landscapes found in the United States. These short sections convey a lot of meaning and feeling with each word and phrase used.
