Edward isn't ready to spend the night away from his parents

Edward Bear is invited to play at Anthony's house. Edward's parents bring him to Anthony's, and promise to come back soon. But when it begins to snow, Edward's parents call Anthony's house. "We can't drive in the deep snow!" Edward's daddy says. Edward isn't quite ready for an overnight away from home—he can't eat, he can't sleep, and he wants to be rescued. This book is about a bear that goes to his friend's house to play in the snow. Its start snowing too hard and his parents can't pick him up. He is going to have to stay overnight. The bear gets upset and can't eat or sleep. So his friends parents dig out the car and drives behind a snowplow all the way home. He feels better and says he was not ready for a sleep over.

This is a great story for young children around the age of preschool and kindergarden because they are just starting to spend the night out, and it lets them know that it is ok to get nervous spending the night out. Edward was hesitant to go when his mother told him that Anthony's mom had asked him to come over. Shortly after Edward had been over at Anthony's, he gets homesick. Then the snow gets too deep for the parents to drive him home, so he has to spend the night. Edward gets so scared that he cannot do anything, even sleep, so Anthony's parents bring him home and he ends up happy with his parents. It is okay for children to be nervous when first starting to spend the night out!
