Apophis: Hyksos pharaoh of the North.

The story recounts a period in Ancient Egypt where the Hyksos, who ruled Northern Egypt for 100 years or so, battled with Southern Egypt. Apophis, Hyksos leader and pharaoh of the North, insisted that certain demands be met by Southern Egypt (based in Thebes). When Thebes refused war ensues. During the battle Seqenenre is killed (consistent w/the historical record). In the book Thebes is then occupied by the Hyksos (doesn't follow the historical record). The Egyptian royalty escapes to Nubia (current day Sudan). In Nubia the Egyptians build up their military (e.g. chariots and war vessels). Prince Ahmose then schemes to open the Nile to trading efforts (a ruse to regain communication w/Thebes and its people). After 10 years and some diplomatic wins the Southern Egyptians are ready to run off the Hyksos. Kamose leads the army to battle but is killed (follows the historical record). Ahmose takes over and runs the Hyksos out of the country. ( )
