He brought the study of Latin into a modern age, and provided an accessible and intelligent entry into classical literature for those entering college with no previous formal training in Latin. He is approachable without being condescending, and while I have updated versions, this edition has a special place in my heart. Thank you, Dr. Wheelock. Rather like a good programming manual: clear, concise, written in reasonably sized chunks, and you have to memorize to get the most out of it. I'm one-quarter of the way through, with help from the (free) Latin Study groups at quasillum.com. You may also like to consult Dale A. Grote's Study Guide to Wheelock's Latin. For example, his notes explain the sound changes that account for the forms of the irregular 'esse' (to be), which may make them easier to memorize. The book has gone through three more editions, earning a bad reputation for an inept 4th, and is now in a well-received revised 6th. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
