Teeny Witch is looking forward to Halloween as she carves her jack-o-lantern, but then her three witchy aunts - Aunt Icky, Aunt Ticky and Aunt Vicky - remind her of Rule 13, which states that all witches must ride on this important night. Teeny, who doesn't particularly like to ride so high in the sky, isn't thrilled, but accepts that the rules must be followed. After a fun experience with a group of human trick-or-treaters, she prepares to join her aunts, only to find that they have a surprise for her, and have found an unusual way to obey Rule 13...

One of eight little paperback picture-books chronicling the adventures of the eponymous Teeny Witch, all published in 1991, Teeny Witch and the Great Halloween Ride pairs an engaging witchy story with cute, colorful illustrations. Although this one wasn't quite to my taste, aesthetically speaking - the style is too cartoon-like - I did find it appealing, as a witchy tale. I appreciated the imaginative solution dreamt up by Aunt Ticky, in order to keep Teeny Witch happy, but also fulfill the obligation to Rule 13. This isn't what I would call great children's literature, but it is enjoyable, and given my love of witchy picture-books, I will undoubtedly be seeking out the other books in the series. ( )
