The author does a nice job at demonstrating some of the parenting methods of many types of animals. A human with a baby and a cat with babies are first shown in a home, which gives kids something they can relate to. The book demonstrates some of the other various environmental manipulations that other animals do, such as nest making, in an effort to protect their babies. Illustrations and brief descriptions are used throughout the book. The the various different methods that animal mothers use to defend their young from being eaten are also demonstrated with beautiful illustrations of actual scenes of potential attack. The various communication methods that animals use to help them survive are discussed as well. If I was a teacher in the early elementary years, this would be an excellent book to read at story time. I read it to my son, who is 10 years old, and he was not very interested. He knew this information already. The book is very organized as it goes through the very basics of parenting care, such as feeding and protecting. There are not too many words per page, which will keep the children from getting board. There is no table of contents, glossary, index, bibliography, or suggeted readings. Since this book is for such young readers, I would suspect that that information is unnecessary. Who doesn't love baby animals? Students will be able to relate the protective bond they feel with their parents to the ones animals feel with their offspring. Fraser starts with the familiar - humans, kittens, puppies - before moving around the world to describe the protective strategies of various animal species. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
