I really liked the book "Jaha and Jamil Went Down the Hill," by Virginia Kroll. It was a very interesting idea to retell the stories of Mother Goose with a different subject matter. My favorite part of the book was the way that it was organized. Each Mother Goose rhyme is re-written based of one of the continent's many countries. For example, on the Madagascar page, there is a poem called "The Ebony Tree." This poem is written in the style of "All Around the Mulberry Bush." Other countries include, Egypt, Tanzia, The Ivory Coast, along with others. Along with the wonderful poetry is beautiful pictures. Everything is done with oil paintings with bold and bright colors, like oranges and reds. Another great part of the illustrations is the representation of the many different cultures represented. There are paintings of the different tribal cultures and their art, as well as westernized cultures, and even the wildlife. The main idea about this book is to teach the readers about Africa in a fun a whimsical way. ( ) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Tantalizing color illustrations and patterned borders reveal the splendors of Africa's countries. A helpful map of Africa is included. JAHA AND JAMIL is sure to become a beloved classic."
