This book was about a young girl whose grandfather becomes ill. He is from a village in Tibet and tells her about a flower cure that took place in his village when someone became sick, so she tries to cure him with flowers as he becomes more and more ill. I liked the little girl's character because of her love and concern for her grandfather. Her mother tells her, "How sweet of you to try but you need lots of flowers." However, the little girl does not stop trying. I think that this story shows a character that children reading it can look up to. ( )

Tashi’s grandfather is not well. He used to tell her stories of how people in his village were cured by flowers. Tashi makes arrangements with a local nursery to bring her grandfather to sit among the flowers to make him better. He agrees but doesn’t get better. Mr. Wong the nursery owner asks him to come back the next week. When they go back the next week they serve all of the customer tea and cookies. People come to talk with him. In Tibet, people sit and visit in the gardens. This is what they call the “flower cure”.
I love the book. The illustrations were beautifully done. The message of friendship and love carried all through the book. I know when I am sick that being out doors makes me feel better.

This is a wonderful book to teach about caring for others, as well as teaching about the Tibetan culture. There were a lot of Tibetan words used throughout the book. Great book. ( )

Tashi adores her grandfather and values the traditions he has brought with him from Tibet. But then he becomes sick, and nothing seems to make him feel better. Tashi remembers him saying that flowers might be a cure and eventually finds a nursery where her family visits each Saturday in hopes that the flowers will be a cure. Week after week, they visit, and soon, a steady stream of new friends join in wishing her grandfather well. Tashi's popola (grandfather) is sick. He fondly remembers living in Tibet and the healing properties of flowers. He shares his memories with Tashi and she tries to help him heal with flowers.

I loved the affection and love between Tashi and her grandfather. Her desire to help him brings a community closer together.
