"It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back. Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel. Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl. Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again." -- P. Angelfall di Susan Ee

  1. 21
Sunshine di Robin McKinley (Utente anonimo)
Utente anonimo: Both feature a plucky teenage heroine and an atypical love interest. Neither involves sappy eyeroll-inducing romantic dialogue. As I read Angelfall, I was immediately reminded of Sunshine, however Angelfall is a much better book. If you liked Sunshine, you might like Angelfall. I personally hated Sunshine, but enjoyed Angelfall.… (altro)

4.5 stars. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which much of humankind has been destroyed by angels. The surviving humans live in fear of many things - starvation, street gangs, and most of all, the angels - who are still around. The main character, Penryn, is trying to get her family (her less-than-sane mother and her wheelchair-bound little sister) to safety. As they are hiding in the shadows on their way to another town, they witness a fight between some angels. When the angels realize the humans are there watching them, Penryn and her family become targets. One of the angels abducts little sis. Penryn is devastated. On her quest to find her sister, she learns more about the angels than she bargained for - and she even makes a deal with one of them to help her.

I wasn't sure how I was going to like the way angels are portrayed in this book, but I decided to think of the novel for what it is - a work of fiction, and not what I believe angels to be.

There is some gore and there are some disturbing images, but I didn't have nightmares or anything - still, they were disturbing, so be prepared for that if you are going to read it. The characters are well developed and the story itself flows nicely along - I never lost interest. The short chapters make for a quick read - which was a little reminiscent of James Patterson for me - not the story-line, just the quick progression of it. There are some surprising plot twists I really did not see coming. The ending is well done and leaves plenty of room for the sequel - which is supposed to be coming out some time this summer, I think.

Because there were a few more, um, unpleasant scenes than I normally would like to read, I took a half star off the rating. But that's just a personal preference. Do you think we'll actually be able to click half-stars in "My Rating" some day? ( )

Why, oh, why did it take me so long to find this book? And where can I get the next one?

A wounded angel, a world in chaos, a crazy mother, a crippled sister, war, demons, gangster angels and a demon with wing envy. Need I say more? ( )

I have had this book in my Amazon Wishlist for what seems like years and when I was in the library I found it! so I got it obviously...and like you would with most books you happen to take home.... I decided to read it (wow!!)

Anyways, Ladies and Gentlemen sit yourself down for a review of such a... 'Meh whatever' book.

Firstly lets go into what Angelfall is about:
1.
Angels at war with humans, the world as we know it has been left to wreck and ruin...like a zombie apocalypse!
2. Penryn is our fantastic main character who not only lacks any interesting thing to comment about, she is so ridiculously boring, if she couldn't defend herself this story would have had nothing at all to write about her, other than she is pretty much her sister and her mothers mother. oh and by the way *whispers* her mother is cucu for coco puffs =O
3. Angels kidnap Paige (her crippled younger sister) and so begins the hours of traipsing across the land to find where she is....obviously with a little help from someone from behind enemy lines.

Why are the angels at war? well here is the big fat reason as to why..... they don't know. someone blatantly knows something.

I was looking forward to this book as I thought the concept seemed promising, what I found myself reading was a boring book which pretty much has nothing happen in it until roughly chapter 36 which is where it actually did get rather good...actually it got nail biting and munch fest worthy (because who doesn't like a good snack when reading great chapters!?)

Throughout the book conversation between characters didn't have any point and mostly ended up one sided with someone just 'remaining silent as a reply or not giving so and so the satisfaction of a response.' so yeah mostly this book is supposed to be focused on Penryn finding her sister and Raffe fixing his wings. While it sticks to the plot smoothly the majority of this book was boring and slow to read.

To sum it up simply I felt like I could have written this book if I simply wrote about how a day with someone I don't really like would go...step by step until finally that person was allowed to f*** off and leave me to it.

But since I live in hope, one day I might pick up the second as the last few chapters were well written and full of everything that was lacking in the rest of the book. ( )
