When an elderly homeless woman is found dead on the shore of Lake Minnetonka, she's wearing something that holds the key to her identity but also opens up a mystery. Embroidered on her blouse is her will, in which she bequeaths everything she owns to her niece Emily Hame, a member of the Monday Bunch at Betsy's Crewel World needlework shop! Emily's aunt turns out to be the second homeless woman to be found dead under mysterious circumstances. It's up to Betsy to discover the common thread between the deaths, and to determine if a murderer may strike again.… (altro)

I thought this was a good addition to the Needlecraft Mystery series. There was a little bit of social commentary on homelessness, but not too much, which was good. I read these for escapism. The mystery was interesting. Trying to figure out why someone would want to kill 2 homeless women. Surprisingly there were a couple of good suspects. I wish there had been more needlework and more Godwin in the book, but there was some. I enjoyed reading it. ( )

I always enjoy this series but this book was a cut above the others. Betsy gets drawn into the hunt for what actually happened to two homeless women who are found frozen to death during a long Excelsior, MN winter. Betsy doesn't know either woman but both have relatives who are customers at her needlework shop, Crewel World. Those relatives both ask Betsy to do some investigating.

Part of the puzzle is that the women were found a few days apart, but with the extreme cold it is very hard to determine times of death, and did they die of natural causes or were they murdered? Did one die before the other? At the same time but in different places? Did they know each other?

The most interesting part of this is that Betsy enlists the help of a third homeless woman to help her investigate the deaths. Both women spend time in shelters, in both Excelsior and in Fargo, ND. The trip to Fargo always Betsy to visit Nordic Needle, one of the premier needlework shops in the U.S.

The killer wasn't too hard to uncover but proving it was quite a trick. I'm still behind on this series but I'm working my way through it to get caught up. ( )

The bodies of two homeless women are found frozen in Excelsior. Both women are connected in some way to ladies who shop in Betsy Devonshire's shop, Crewel World. When the local police investigator believes murder may be involved even though there is no real evidence to suggest it at first, Betsy's customers become suspects and ask her to look into it. Betsy receives some assistance from a homeless woman named Annie who attends the funeral of one of the women. Their investigation takes them by train to Fargo to gather information. The character of Annie was a great addition to the series, and I hope we'll see her back in future installments. I listened to this mystery via an Overdrive download from my library on a road trip. The narrator was better with female voices than with male ones, and I really loved the way she did Annie. I was quite disappointed in Godwin's voice, but he played a minor role in this installment.
