Similar to Yellowfang's Secret and Bluestar's Prophecy; Crookedstar's Promise fallow the life of Crookedstar's.

Plot : I feel like this story move faster. Perhaps it due to reading Yellowfang and Bluestar that the format is the same in each story. It not necessary bad, all three cats make different choices. Take Bluestar and Crookedstar for example. They both become leader according to their own choices and life experience. Bluestar know Thistleclaw is too reckless and is seen as a threat to the clan. She makes the hard choice giving up her kits.
Crookedstar unknowingly made a promise with a dark forest cat, Mapleshade. (I guess the wrong cat). With that promise it drive him to put the clan before himself losing everyone he loved.

Characters : Crookedstar is mention in the main series but, is not in the spotlight like Bluestar and Yellowfang. However not completely in the background. His brother Oakheart's and daughter Silverstream ties him to Thuderclan and Fireheart. This make Crookedstar a interesting character to want to know his life and how he became who he is when Fireheart joins Thuderclan.

When I read Omen of the Stars the dark forest felt like it came out of the blue as a plot device. Crookedstar's Promise show that there been cats in the dark forest way before Tigerstar.

The Erin Hunters dig deep in to these characters, connecting all their stories together. Creating a world of great story.

To me the characters are the heart and soul of a story.

Great writing helps you feel like your by the character side and getting lost in their world. Great characters shaped the story to their will and give you a reason to come back to that world.

Crookedstar's promise is about a cat named Stormkit in the beginning. When he was only a few moons old he fell from the stepping stones and fell in the river. He sees a cat and the cat says it is not your time and disappears. After spending half a moon in Bambleberry’s medicine den he goes out and finds his mother loves his brother more. She changed his name to Crookedkit. After spending a couple of days alone in the nursery, he leaves camp and goes to a barn where he meets Fleck. Fleck and his littermate Mitzi. Her kits play with Crookedkit for a quarter of a moon then he goes home. Then he is made an apprentice name Crookedpaw he started his training to be a warrior. After his warrior name he becomes deputy and then leader. The book ends after he makes a promise to his daughter Silverkit.

I liked this book because the author adds lots of emotion to their books and they are enjoyable to read. I love reading all of the author's books. I don’t like the part where Rainflower disliked Crookedstar. My favorite part is where Crookedjaw and Willowpelt, his mate, went fishing and Willowpelt steals all the fish. It makes me sad to think about Silverkit to grow up without a mother. Willowpelt died from Greencough which kills cats in the book. I think overall this is a really good book to read.

I think I'm on a Warriors kick right now. Anyways, I was at the library looking for the book after The Fourth Apprentice, but they didn't have it. So, I picked up the two super editions I had yet to read. Crookedstar's Promise was a brilliantly written novel that gave me a much clearer picture of the RiverClan warriors. Most of the books are from ThunderClan perspectives. Because this book, if you read the edition with the manga adventure, includes the entire life of Crookedstar (progression from Stormkit, Crookedkit, Crookedpaw, and Crookedjaw), it is very, very long. The length gives you a bigger picture of the trials Crookedstar endured and ultimately gave me a better view of his daughter Silverstream. Rating - 4 stars due to brilliant writing and heart-wrenching story ( )

Sigh. This is my son's favorite book. He loves it so much, in fact, that he is writing his own novel patterned after it. He loves it so much that he checked it out from the school library again last week "so you can read it, too, Mom. I think you'll like it." How could I say no to that?

Let's just say it was not the worst book I've ever read. There were approximately 30 "main" characters, which drove me pretty batty, but the plot was OK once it got moving. It was maybe a 2.5 star book. ( )

One of the best Warriors books, this one is better written than most. Like all Warriors books, this one has its sad events, but unlike in some of other books, they do not seem cheap or contrived here, they do not exist for shock value or as an easy yank on the reader's emotional chain. ( )
