The way the Alphabet is presented in this book is fun and enjoyable. The Artist does a good job of making you want to see what some of monsters look like. I just think that the rhyming words and the mental imagery helps kids the alphabet. B is for booger. If i were a kid I would be more incline to remember the alphabet from this book. It would probably give me nightmares if I were a kid who is easily scared but it does say on the front that its about monsters. Of the few books i have read on the alphabet this is one of my top picks. i liked this one. To any kid not afraid it is rather child friendly. This could be used in class in a cool way. you could have each student pick a letter then have them pick a monster name and action. Like Bart the Burper. I think kids could have fun with that maybe you could have them draw their monsters and have them write the letter. This book was a book about monsters and ABC's. The book starts at the letter A and ends with Z, having one monster's name represent each letter of the alphabet. Each monster also has something unique about itself. I thought this book was really fun and cute! It made me giggle from time to time! I think this book would be an awesome way to give children an interesting approach to learning their ABC's. Some classroom extensions for this book would be using it to learn our ABC's. Another great extension would be teaching children that everyone is different and unique in their own way. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Leuck, L. (2003). Jeepers creepers: A monstrous ABC. New York, NY: Chronicle Books.
Laura Leuck wrote an interesting and comical children’s book called Jeepers Creepers: A Monstrous ABC. This book is meant to help children learn to associate things they see with letters of the alphabet through observation.
This children’s story is cute and fun. The letters of the alphabet are associated with monsters in the book and what they look like. Some examples are
L – Lucy’s tongue is ten feet long.
O – Oliver has vulture wings.
V – Vicky’s thorns have neon tips.
E – Ed’s hair smells like sauerkraut.
All of these examples of letters in the book show use of science process skills. The letter “L” shows measurement while the others show observation.
I believe this book is meant to be at a 1st grade reading level. The material in the book could be used to help older students learn and be able to recognize the science process skills.
The artwork in the book is very colorful. The pages are full of monsters and bright colors. This book would not lose a child’s attention very easily.
Now go pick up this book and who the monster is that is “a REALLY freaky one – with blinking eyes, a bumpless chin, roundish ears and furless skin ...”
