Tomorrow Girls is about a girl named Louisa Ballinger. This story takes place in the future in the middle of World War Four. Louisa's best friend Maddilin Frye is disguised as Louisa's twin sister. In order to keep Louisa and Maddi safe Louisa's parents pay tons of money for them to attend Country Manor School.

At the school there is no internet, and the girls aren't even allowed to send letters to their parents, Louisa is positive Country Manor is perfect and she makes lots of friends there. There are also many mysterious things that Louisa and Maddi don't understand are told everything is for their own safety. Louisa then finds out a dark secret about Country Manor and why they are so strict. The teachers at the school are actually people from The Alliance, the people the United States are fighting in the war. Country Manor is actually an Alliance training school and the Alliance did this so they could get money. When the parents find out their kids are at a sleeper cell, they have to pay tons of money to get their kids back. Louisa and three of her other friends run away in the night.

I loved Tomorrow Girls and cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

In the war ravenged USA people who can afford it send their children off to school...TO PROTECT THEM. This book, the first of the series sets the stage for four girls to deal with the reality that nothing as it seems.

I wasn't expecting much from this book other than a quick read and hopefully some smart-not-silly female protagonists. I was pleasantly surprised. I fell easily into the narrative, travelling along with Louisa and Maddie. Hints of tension lace the story from the beginning preparing the reader for the big reveal. Louisa feels safe at her new school and even enjoys the unusual but exciting classes. Still, she and her roommates can't help but notice that there's something odd about their classes and surroundings.

I liked this book not only for the characters and plot, but because it is clearly written for brand new teens. The popularity of dystopian novels has captured the interest of many of my younger students whose comprehension and reading maturity are not yet matching the most popular titles. Eva Gray managed to bring to life a dystopian world without the violence and bloodshed and moral ambiguity of much of the genre.
She also manages to leave the reader hanging on the last page, prompting a mad rush to get the next in the series. ( )

The characters were very real to me but there wasn't really a plot through most of the book. It was obvious we are suppose to think the school is evil but it sounds like an amazing place, environmental, focusing on people and personal strength rather than technology. Phys Ed is constructive teaching the kids the kinds of thing they learn at outdoor camp. I also did t get a very good feel for the War and what was really happening in these girls lives before arriving here. But it was a decent read and I think it will appeal to some girls. I've started reading the next one to my daughter although she's not that thrilled. ( )
