A fascinating, revealing, and quite disturbing account of the assassination of Dr. George Tiller, and the extremist right-wing ideologies and movements that influenced his assassin. ( ) Stephen Singular does a great job of showing how domestic terrorists are using the issue of abortion to widen their influence over America. Groups like Operation Rescue constantly push out messages of hate and encourage the murder of abortion providers in hopes that they will suck in bipolar or schizophrenic people like Scott Roeder to commit the actual violence. "News" casters like Fox News Bill O'Reilly help to spread the message, then both groups deny they have any part in causing the violence. Karen Armstrong says that fundamentalist groups are usually misogynist which applies well to the domestic terrorists in America who want more than anything (other than the destruction of representative US government) for women not to have any control over their sexuality. Dr. George Tiller's motto of Trust Women is mentioned several times and is the antithesis of what the terrorists support. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to understand the workings of domestic terrorism in America. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
"On May 31, 2009, Scott Roeder walked into a Wichita church, drew a pistol, and shot Dr. George Tiller at point blank range. Tiller, who was the most public practitioner of late-term abortions in America, had been a lightning rod for controversy, regularly referred to in the conservative media as "Tiller, the Baby Killer." Tiller's death was not an isolated act of violence, but a pivotal, public murder in a war that has been raging for decades. It's a war of violently opposing ideologies, encompassing abortion, but also questions of privacy, sexuality, and religion. It's being fought in our nation's courtrooms, at school and churches, on television sets, at our dinner tables, and in our bedrooms. And more and more, the key battlegrounds are in Kansas, once home to Brown vs. Board of Education and some of the bloodiest conflicts of the Civil War. This is a gripping look at a cold-blooded terrorist action, two men representing opposite ideological extremes, and the region where those violent forces clash"--Provided by publisher.
