This buffalo rocks! (pun totally intended)

This fun and playful book lets ready imagine what it is like to have a buffalo as a pet. They can imagine their buffalo making too much noise and banging on all of the pots and pans. They are told that it may be time to teach them how to play the drums. Buffalo are large animals and predominantly loud. It is ironic that the author wants readers to teach them to be louder. Nonetheless, this book lets kids imagine what it is like and encourages them to have pets. It also teaches them a sense of responsibility. After all they have to train the buffalo to play the drums. Your buffalo is trying to tell you something. He wants to learn drums. And no, this won't be like the last time, or the time before that. In fact, let's just forget all about the closet full of abandoned pursuits. This time it's for real. Vernick's book is chock full of laughs, visual and otherwise, as we go about teaching our buffalo to drum. And let's face it: that buffalo is darn cute. The ending provides a wonderful ba-dum-bump to the rest of the story. ( )
