When shabby Sheila Ainslee shows up at her grandmother's cottage, after her wastrel father left the family years before, she shocks all her relatives. Mrs. Ainslee had always blamed Sheila's mother for leading her son astray, but in truth that noble woman was all that kept Sheila longing for goodness and virtue. With her mother dead and her father now in prison, and pursued by a criminal friend of her father's, Sheila had nowhere to go.

Sheila shows her innate goodness in the face of pettiness and spite, and in return is shown the Source of all goodness. She has the chance to be reconciled to her father, in a touching ending to this sweet story. ( )
