Bart is a boy whose mother has died, he finds a fox who was recently orphaned.
His father advises Bart to dispose of the fox as they cannot afford to feed it and it cannot take care of itself.
That same day Bart’s father dies at work.
Wholly alone and destitute Bart finds no one to take him in- until he is advised to go to Daniel Webster as they share a love of animals.
Arriving there Bart proves his worth and is taken in. He learns and grows and in time Daniel Webster takes to his deathbed.
After issuing some uncommon instructions Daniel Webster dies.
Later Bart sees his ghost and that of his three horses.
It ends with a poem.
This book is well written if bizarre.
I think..obviously avoid if your family does not like the supernatural element.
A tame chill for families seeking a ghost story.
