An interesting read and a thorough account of the Cherokee nation and their contributions. One had little idea that the Indians were by 1800 or so vastly outnumbered by the white settlers in America. One understood that the land hunger of whites was insatiable but this book drives the point home; indeed, John Ross himself was thrown out of his own house. Andrew Jackson is presented less as a criminal than a pawn of the crazed whites in some of the frontier states. The discussion of the Trail of Tears puts some of the blame on Ross for not believing that Jackson would do what he said. ( ) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Relates the history of the forced relocation of the Cherokee from Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina to Indian territory in Oklahoma and the struggle by their principal chief, John Ross, to prevent their removal from their ancestral lands. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
