I read this because I enjoyed watching the first 3 episodes of the TV show that's coming out in January. Well the TV show is nothing like the book... at least so far. the book was okay. good ending. ( )

Loved this book. Devoured it in a few hours, my eyes glued to the page. I dug Nelson's [b:Destroy All Cars|5711736|Destroy All Cars|Blake Nelson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1296986925s/5711736.jpg|5883347], but thought it suffered from the lack of an ending. Recovery Road does not. It's a truly satisfying journey. We meet Maddie when she's in rehab, and we leave her a long way from there. This book is about the trip, and about growing up. It's a lovely book. I liked that it was set in Portland, and it was extra cool to be reading about Maddie riding the Max train while I was doing the same thing. ( )

I read Recovery Road in one night. This is the first book I’ve read by Blake Nelson and I enjoyed it. The characters are brought to life and with a subject such as teen drug abuse, it would be easy to make caricatures of the Madeline and Stewart but the book doesn’t go there.

Madeline is sent to rehab because she’s pretty out of control. While in rehab Madeline makes friends with Trish, much to her surprise, and begins to realize she needs to clean herself up. After she leaves rehab to moves to a halfway house, and there she meets Stewart. Stewart is in a different halfway house and is also a recovering addict. Maddie is instantly attracted to him when they meet on a bus in their way to movie night. They begin to go to movie night every week so they can see each other.

Maddie is able to go home before Stewart and she works hard in school and wants to go to college. She keeps in touch with Trish and how Trish is doing outside of rehab. When Stewart is released, he and Maddie get together and the question is, can they help each other or will they end up harming each other?

I really liked the twists and turns of Recovery Road. It is a fast read but only because you can’t wait to find out what happens to these characters you’ve grown to care about.
