With a death sentence of an inoperable brain tumor, Samantha Collins tries to come to terms with the meaning of life, her belief in God, her battle with sobriety and her hope of it all ending on the beach. As Sam's life dwindles away, memories of abuse, mistakes and bad choices haunt her by way of terrifying nightmares. She relives her tumultuous childhood, remembering the beatings her brother received and the sexual abuse her sister endured so that she wouldn't have to. Sam's escape at an early age led her to a life of alcohol dependency as she partied her way into her adulthood. Now, almost forty years later, she rides her Honda Goldwing across the country with her passenger and trusty companion, MyLo, a wolf-like dog, on the back as she says goodbye to the people she loves. Laugh with her as her best friend and confidant, Johnny Styles, jumps into characters of his favorite movies. Cry with her as she meets up with her old friends, Cody, Leeny, and Mac and reminisces about the past. While she can't decide if she should make new friends, her good-natured banter with the fearsome, domineering, Judge Styles, Johnny's father, opens up a whole new world for her. In an incredibly short time, she becomes part of a family she could never have imagined. Learn how one life can touch so many and have such a drastic impact on those around her.… (altro)

Rare is the book that has the power to sink the hook, and reel me in. The book with the ability to draw you into the story so well that you forget everything going on around you, even forgetting to put it down.

This book tells the story of a cancer patient in such a way that as a cancer patient's caregiver, I couldn't help but think that Pam Logan had walked the road herself, or guided someone very close to her down that road.

If you are a cancer patient, have lost someone to cancer, or know someone who is battling it currently, this is a must read book!

She just wanted to die on the beach - no fanfare, no big send off, no benefits to raise money, no expensive, elaborate treatment - just go.

You guys are the best. You know, when Cody found you, it gave me renewed faith in happy endings. I kind of grew up, not in, but sort of believing in a fairy tale world. I went from place to place all my life looking for it but not finding it; at least not for me. But here, this is it! This is the best anyone could hope for. I know it’s not always sunshine and roses for you but this is like heaven to someone like me. Please don’t ever take it for granted. The love you all have for each other, it just blows my mind.”
He just shrugged and began to eat. “You should eat. It’s going to be a rough day for you. Finding out the world isn’t all sunshine and roses takes a lot out of you.”
Now, it’s just you and God. He has just shown you all the things you have done; now He wants an explanation. It soon becomes clear that he doesn’t care  what  you have done; He wants to know  why  .  Why  did you drink?  Why  did you run away?  Why  did you steal that pie from Nana’s windowsill?   Why  did you steal the car to go to that party? Was it because you’re a careless, selfish little bitch that doesn’t give a rat’s ass about anybody but yourself? Or was it to save your friend from those guys that would have gotten her drunk and raped her if given the chance? Sam didn’t know he knew about that.
If that kid turned out to be a loser, it’s his own fault. We all make choices. When you grew up, you made the choice to drink. Five years ago, you made the choice to stop! You know how they say that ‘shit happens?’ That’s bullshit! Miracles happen - shit just gets in the way!
