I like the aspect of her being somewhat psychic mixed in with being a newly turned werewolf. I also liked two alphas from separate packs working together to solve an issue. And it was interesting to see the two main characters avoid what everyone else could see. I look forward to reading more from the series and seeing if other past characters come back into play. I wasn't too sure about this one... I wasn't really feeling the name 'Carol' but I'm glad I read it! If you're looking for a hot were-wolf story with an alpha male and a nice 'normal (not really)' heroine, give this a try. Carol was so likable and relatable, and Rick, hoo boy, he was strong but didn't go around barking orders all the time. My Synopsis: Carol is a recently turned lupus garou - who has another ability. She has visions of the future - usually signifying trouble. These visions have enabled her to keep from shifting for five months. She is troubled because one of her visions has shown her members of her new wolf family as wolves - unable to shift back. She is afraid that if she shifts, she will not be able to shift back again. Since she is newly turned and unmated AND has not shifted - Darien, the pack leader - has moved her into his house in order to keep an eye on her. He wants her to learn their ways and doesn't want her shifting unexpectedly. He knows it will happen, it is just a matter of time. He also feels it is his responsibility to find her a mate. Ryan McKinley is leader of a pack from a neigboring town and a P.I. Carol's visions had helped him to solve a murder, but he has been unable to get her out of his head. He says it is because he doesn't believe she is psychic and wants to get to the bottom of how she came upon her information. The harder he tries to prove she is a fraud, the more he starts to believe her, all the while neither one of them can seem to fight the growing attraction between them. A mysterious flu sweeps through the community and before anyone can stop it, some of the wolves have shifted and cannot change back. It is up to Carol and Ryan to figure out what is going on and if they are going to be able to stop it in time. My Thoughts: I did like this book - but I had a hard time picturing Carol. I don't think it had so much to do with her description, but the fact that I know too many Carols. My mom is Karol, my MIL is Carol and my next door neighbor is Carol. None of these women are young, sexy, wolf-like, (lol) so it took some time for me to erase my Carols and embrace this Carol. Once I really got into the story though, it got easier. This book was a little slower moving than previous books by Ms. Spear that I had read. It seemed to take longer to get to the "mystery" that needed to be solved. And while I grew to like Carol and Ryan together, I didn't instantly feel their chemistry - and maybe that was how it was supposed to be as neither one of them really wanted to be mated either. Wolf River is a paranormal story about werewolves good and bad. Carol Woods is a nurse who was turned 6 months prior and is not quite ready to come to terms with her being a werewolf. She has not let herself change into a werewolf but knows that she will have to eventually. She is currently staying with her red wolf pack leader who wants her to pick a mate. There is no one that she is willing to mate with until she meets Ryan Mckinley again. All Ryan wants to do is talk to Carol about her visions, he is not to sure if he believes that she can see things that are going to happen and he wants to make sure he can trust her. As they spend more time together they find that they are deeply attracted to each other. In the meantime, the local packs are infected with a man made virus by some renegade gray werewolves who want Carol for their pack. The pack leader, Carol and Ryan race against time to find a cure for this virus and they need to make sure that the humans do not 'change' while they are infected as they may not be able to change back to human form. The supporting characters rounds out the plot nicely. This was the first book I have read in Terry Spears Wolf series. I enjoyed reading this story. If you like a paranormal story, then this one is worth your time. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Why wasn't this one rated higher? I think mostly because the wolf fever situation didn't seem as dire as it should have. It wasn't until more than half way through the book that the first wolf got stuck in wolf form. We knew it was going to happen since the heroine had visions about it. So we were just waiting around for it to happen. The bad guys were pretty inept. When the evil genius doctor finally got page time, the hero immediately killed him. So we never figured out why he had created the virus or where he was coming from.
Also the hero, who was alpha of a neighboring wolf pack, didn't seem as alpha as he could have been. Maybe I like my alpha werewolves just a bit more snapping and snarling and aggressive. It took him 5 months to figure out that he wanted her for his mate. If they're too human seeming, what's the point in reading werewolf love stories?
The heroine had spent the 5 months since she had been infected as a werewolf fighting off the change to a wolf by using her precognitive visions to distract herself. She was scared of what she would be like as a wolf. When she does finally change we were in the hero's POV so got no idea of what she thought of being a wolf. No description of wolf senses or how great it was to run as a wolf or how scarry etc., no idea at all. If it was important enough to fight for 5 months, it was important enough to tell us about it.
Still it's a fairly decent werewolf series. I like that she tells stories of many different werewolves from all over the country and that they do not all follow each other one after the other. A pretty good read for werewolf fans. Not great literature but not a bad way to spend an evening.
