Meh...The backstage stories were great to read about, but if you pick up this book, chances are you have seen at least some of White's stand up...so the stand up could have been left out of the book. While he is really funny, leave the actual stand up on the stage and stick to the stuff people haven't heard. ( ) OK. Alternate chapters tell us about Ron's early years in his career, and his misfortunes with marriage, pottery, drugs, and life on the road. The chapters between are transcriptions of his stand-up routines. Very, very funny - but I've seen a fair portion of it on CMT. Ron doesn't go into a lot of detail about his darker moments. He always plays it for a laugh - which you expect, but he sometimes comes across as not giving a rat's ass about the pain and destruction he has caused along the way. A pity. Overall, this is a pretty thin book. Most of the book is taken up with illustrations based on his stand-up routines. I'm a big fan of stand-up comics, and Ron is no exception. (He's the stand-out of the Blue Comedy Tour in my opinion.) In addition to the stand-up there are 4 quick chapters detailing Ron's life off the stage. Pretty good light fare for fans, but overall this is mostly just a rehash of his stage material with pictures. Good for plane flights. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Menzioni
Moving from the Blue Collar Comedy Tour to the printed page, Ron White (affectionately known as "Tater Salad") delivers the laughs in his distinctive down-home style. He riffs on everything from obnoxious designer sunglass salesmen to his wife's wealthy but stingy family, and revisits some of his most famous characters, such as his troublesome dog Sluggo.--From publisher description.
