La doctora Isabel Favor, autora de un best-séller de autoayuda, lo pierde todo en pocas semanas y se da cuenta de que puede solucionar la vida de todo el mundo excepto la suya. Arruinada, decide ir a Italia para darse un respiro. Allí conoce a Lorenzo Gage, un actor disoluto en plena crisis existencial… y al que le tienta la idea de seducir a una mujer como ella. Isabel comprenderá entonces que ha escapado de un caos para caer en otro.

Un altro bel libro della Phillips che anche questa volta è riuscita a creare una storia intrigante e avvincente, nonostante la protagonista non mi sia stata particolarmente simpatica per tutta la prima parte del racconto.
Isabel Favor, truffata dal suo commercialista e in totale bolletta, decide di approfittare di un’opportunità offertale da un’amica e così, per ritrovare la serenità e riappropriarsi della sua vita, parte per l’Italia. Lorenzo Gage è un famoso attore hollywoodiano, in Italia per un periodo di vacanze in attesa di iniziare a girare un nuovo film.
Tra i due un incontro occasionale a Firenze, molto breve e non proprio entusiasmante, ma sarà il caso, poi, ad avvicinarli … di certo molto più di quanto avrebbero mai pensato!
Ambientato in Toscana è sicuramente un omaggio della scrittrice a questa bellissima terra, e se anche manca alla storia un pizzico della sua solita verve, il libro merita di essere letto.
Effettive quattro stelline e mezzo.

Honestly I expected more from Phillips than this book. The pacing was always a bit off, the characters never quite gelled together in my head, and the ending was just weird and came out of nowhere. ( )

This was a very nice book. I loved the setting and the descriptions of food. I've always wanted to go to Tuscany. The characters were well drawn and you cared for both of them. Ren was really fun with his constant disguises. Isabel was a very nice person and I liked how she scheduled being spontaneous. I also really liked Ren's ex-wife. A nice easy read with enough in depth to hold your interest. ( )

The reason I'm giving this novel 2 stars instead of zerois that it's finally nice to see a romance with a heroine older than 30. I thought the two main characters had a very adult relationship with no major sexual hang ups or repressions, clearly discussed nature of the relationship, and an acknowledgment of protection. However, it was hard to actually tell who were the main characters. Harry and Tracy , with their nearly inexplicable marriage problems , sometimes dominated the pages.
The plot was also nearly inexplicable. A magical fertility statue that is being searched for by all the villagers isn't believable outside of a paranormal romance. Also a Hollywood bad boy who isn't very bad ; and a religious self help psychologist who engages in casual sex and flirts with bondage but still remembers to pray strained my suspended disbelief past the breaking point.
