The Prince of the Dolomites is an old Italian Folktale that tells how the Dolomites got their white sheen. The story is Prince Pazzo, who falls in love with one of the Moon Princesses. He goes the live on the moon, but the bright light forces him and his bride to return to Earth. She pines for the moon, but the Salvani find a way to bring some of the moon to her. And the Prince and the Princess live happily ever after. This is a typical love story fairy tale with travels to fantastical places (the moon) and magic. This story is more text driven than illustration driven unlike most of the other dePaola's stories. There are large portions of text and the illustrations seem more of a snapshot then showing action. The colors in the illustrations are also muted to convey a more realistic scene then with his other fairy tales. The book is a sort of creation story, instead of the whole world just the Dolomites. There is no evil character, but the adversary is homesickness, which many children can relate to. I feel that this is a good book for elementary libraries. Because of the love of Prince Pazzo of the Dolomites for Princess Lucia of the Moon, the black peaks of the Dolomite mountains are changed to glimmering white, blue, pink, and yellow. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
