Summary: Welcome to my neighborhood is about a girl who has recently moved and her friend came to visit her. When her friend comes to visit her she walks around town and uses the alphabet to explain many of the things they see. Also the when she is explaining the different places she uses some Spanish.

Personal Reaction: This was not my favorite book that I have read but it wasn't bad. It reminds me when I first moved here five years ago and my family came to visit for the first time and I showed them around.

Classroom Extensions:

1. The teacher could ask the students to name places around town with the alphabet.

2. The students could go on a field trip around town to find different places with the letters of the alphabet.

This is a good bilingual/multicultural book for children. I had to look up a couple of things on the internet, though for it to make better sense (abuelo and barrio). Enjoyed the pictures! ( )

I liked that this book had more of a story to it than many alphabet books. Not only is it a lesson in letters, but a glimpse into a world many readers may not be familiar with. The illustrations are simple, but they depict the neighborhood in a way that feels authentic.
