"1890, Oregon: recently widowed, Kate Blakely is struggling to make ends meet on her small farm as she tries to heal from the scars of her late husband's cruelty. When her handsome, brawny neighbor Zachariah McGovern almost dies while saving her four-year-old daughter from a near-fatal accident, Kate, despite being deeply wary of the man, brings him into her home to nurse him back to health. Gradually Kate realizes that underneath Zach's rough exterior is a gentle, loving soul who is fiercely protective of Kate and her daughter. But at much as Zach longs for Kate's love, she knows she can't open her heart without revealing her darkest secret"--P. [4] of cover.… (altro)

Widowed Kate Blakely struggles to support herself and her daughter on a small farm in Oregon. She wants nothing to do with men, especially her brother-in-law, but makes an exception when her neighbor, Zach McGovern, rescues her daughter from a nest of rattlesnakes. She nurses him back from death, and the two develop a relationship despite them both hiding secrets.
Like most of her books, Ms. Anderson writes a good story with some pathos, romance, and plot twists. This is just another of those excellent books. ( )

A lovely story. I quite enjoyed this story of an abused woman falling in love again. The hero was wonderfully written. He was strong and charming but he had a few weak points that made him realistic. I loved how it didn't take long for the heroine's little 4 year old girl to have him wrapped around her finger. The daughter was one of the most realistically written children I've seen in books. Her vocabulary was appropriate and the things that she talked about were not too advanced for her age. It's always so sweet to see how a man can feel so loving towards a child.

Highly recommended. ( )

Historical romance, set in 1890 Oregon. Widowed Kate is struggling to heal from her abusive husband's cruelty towards her and her daughter. Single neighbor Zach saves her daughter when she fell into a dry well, but he almost dies from the rattlesnakes bites incurred. So, although she frightened by him, she's dutybound to nurse him back to health...and they fall in love. But will they weather the storm that she accidentally killed her first husband and buried him in the rose garden? ( )

"Only Buried Secrets Could Stop Their Love From....Coming Up Roses". I haven't read this book yet (just found it on my bookshelf) but it is about a widow who knew nothing of love and her new neighbor.
