An unusual combination of art and allegory, this stunning hand-printed book invokes the fascinating world of Indian snake mythology. These evocative fables about real and imagined serpents show the snake to be as much a creature of the human mind and imagination, as it is of earth and water. A handsome museum edition,SSSS: Snake Art & Allegory has been co-published with the Musee Du Quai Branly, France. Greek artist Ianna Andreadis' bold, flowing lines counterpoint the rich, teeming world of Hindu and Buddhist snake lore. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

From the Hindu snake goddess Manasa, to the cobra which sheltered the praying Buddha, a wide variety of tales are included by Gita Wolf, each in a very abbreviated form. Greek-born illustrator Ianna Andreadis' art uses bold black swirls, occasionally enlivened by blue, green or red. The effect is a powerful one, making me glad I gave this title a chance. Anyone with a love of snakes, and the folklore inspired by them, or who appreciates handmade paper and hand-printed books, should definitely seek out this little gem! ( )
