The First McGill Library was a volunteer effort started in 1927 by Grace McGill and Col. Brown. The Present building opened in 2001.

City Archives
The Archives occupies a 4,000-square-foot space adjacent to the Library. It operates as the official repository of Burnaby's municipal records, containing records dating back to Burnaby's incorporation in 1892. Reference services are available by appointment by phoning 604-296-7018 or 604-294-7290.
