I absolutely loved Music and Silence and subsequently read all of her other books. Is anyone else a fan?

I read "Restoration" many years ago and loved it. Even the film was pretty good.

I don' have the book any longer, but, thanks to you, I'll look into her again. Music and Silence you say....I'm off to amazon.com!!

I suppose this means reading the copy of Restoration on my shelves, doesn't it? Music and Silence really appealed. Will try to answer your question (am I a fan?) in the next few weeks.

I actually think her best two books are Music and Silence and The Colour.

Music and Silence is certainly my favourite of Rose Tremain's books but Sacred Country is another; set in rural post-war Suffolk it is the story of a girl who at the age of seven realises she is a really a boy. Rose writes some superb characterisations and, I think, is spot on a matching the tone and pace of a book to the geographical and temporal setting.

I haven't read Rose Tremain's books yet, but based on what LTers have been saying I'm interested in The Colour, esp. since its also listed in 1001 Books. Gonna check it out at the bookstore next week :)

Had an urge to raise a thread from the dead. Recently finished The Colour, which I liked despite the dreary main male character. My two favourites are Restoration and Music and Silence.

Did you get round to reading any Tremain, Digifish?

I've only read Restoration but it was enough to whet my appetite for more of Tremain's work!

I liked Music and Silence a lot. I'm going to go on a Tremain hunt one of these fine days. Hopefully Restoration.

I have just started to read Music and Silence after it got such raves on various groups here. I also have The Colour to read as well.... will let you know what I think once I have finished!

I enjoyed The Road Home and Restoration, but I have also enjoyed her short stories, especially The Ebony Hand and Peerless from The Darkness of Wallis Simpson, which I heard read on Radio 4 and which got me to read her short stories.
Also read The Cupboard, which is an early work but rather fun.
