I got some great second hand ones when a local second hand bookshop was closing down and moving to another country town. I miss the shop but I love their bookcases. They were very, very cheap. Keep your eye out around your area for bookshops closing down or moving.

Ikea is always very popular for new bookcases.

Most of my shelves have been bought second hand from the junkier places around inner city Sydney, or are hand-me-downs. Garage sales, too. My last set of "new" shelves - solid wood, chest height, deep, a pretty burgandy colour - were only $30 from a local garage sale.

And the kids have claimed them for their toys already. *sigh*

I'm off to IKEA today to get new bookcases. The Billy modular system is good.

I am with digifish... I bought IKEA because they were cheap and I can add or remove shelves.

Incidentally, the coffee at IKEA is pretty bad. Something akin to battery acid. Great meatballs though!

I've never consumed any IKEA food - I try to get out ASAP, once I have my 'trolley-load'. Now I know to pick and choose if I ever do. :)

While you are trying to find a book case why not find a nice flat surface and use book-ends, or stack them tower style!!

It really depends what your looking for or willing to spend, any furniture store should sell them, Ikea probably is the cheapest

i've scored some pretty good ones off hard rubbish and from op-shops. hardwood, with backs etc.
maybe not as up to date with interior design fashions, but you can't see them for the books covering them anyway!
