Hmmm seems like there is a move a foot to remove "duplicate" groups...

http://www.librarything.com/topic/79509

Fight FIGHT for the ULTB group's existence....

Then again it has been a while since anything has happened.

Isn't this a unique group? What would it merge with?

Well, there's Singleton Showcase, which is pretty similar. Neither get a lot if discussions, but I think there are quite a number of interested members. I certainly check my ultbs every so often - even got a new one the other day!

Every new book I add I still check to see if I may add the ULTB tag! Vive ULTBG!!!

Actually, the current proposals would put Orphans, Singleton Showcase, One of a Kind and You and You Alone into ULTB. Which makes sense to me - they're all "books only one person has" groups. I don't think any of the others have a unique tag, though I'm not sure. I voted yes to SS and Orphans - if you go to SS, OoaK and YaYA are suggested to be combined into that (I didn't vote, I'm not a member of either group - doesn't seem right).

I'll tell you why I voted "no", and it's the same reason I never joined this group.

One look at this group's description made me run screaming into the night. Any group that has so many rules it has to outline them has too many rules. And I have no interest whatsoever in being "ranked" or competing with anyone else or having someone checking up to see if I've tagged a book properly. And I may not want to tag my unique books, but joining this group seems to commit me to do that.

So thanks, but no thanks.

lilithcat, obviously you're not compelled to do anything, but I'm puzzled why you would consider joining the group if you weren't interested in tagging your books.

As for the rules, I don't think they're too onerous, more like a bit of fun. In fact, if you read the rules thoroughly they are actually contradictory; the first rule states "1. The book(media) must show up on Library Thing works page with one and only member, namely you, as having the book(media)." whilst the rule about vanity presses states "...in order to be considered for this group the book(media) must be cataloged by at least two people on Library Thing.".

As far as the ranking goes, I don't know about anyone else but I don't think I've looked at it in months; am I still at number 6? ;)

If you are not part of this group then which of the other groups do you belong to that you object to being combined with this one?

Could you light your hair on fire as you run screaming into the night? Now that would be worth seeing!

Sadly no, you are now 17.

Wait a minute. Were you even a member of any of the groups that were purposed to be combined?

Since the "mini-polls" are gone now, I can't tell, did someone purpose combing with Rare, Old or Offbeat?

So the "mini-poll" has vanished from the group page and now appears in the this page Proposed group combinations (search for Unique Library Thing Book to see who all the polls are combining...) They (LT they) suggest reading Group Combination Guidelines Which is empty. So skip it and just go to Group Combination Discussion which is so so clear.

It's clear that combinations are being dropped, at least for the time being.

Another similar group is "Too Obscure" (link: http://www.librarything.com/groups/tooobscure ). No one has posted there in eleven months.

Hmmm, I fear they are fading into obscurity!

It appear that the power that be are pretty easy to fight. I look like nothing is going to happen.
