so i know a little bit about Neoplatonism, but not much. mostly it's all second hand or based upon Neoplatonism's influence upon early Christianity. however, i would like to read much more on the subject. does anyone know a good place to start? should i just make the plunge into Plotinus? or would somebody "in the know" recommend i start somewhere else?

I think maybe Neoplatonism goes beyond Plotinus, but he is fascinating. I found the Cambridge Companion to Plotinus readable and informative.

The book "Neoplatonism" by Pauliina Remes is by far the best place to start. It's in the "Ancient Philosophies" series by the University of California Press. The cover shows a pictures of Hypatia of Alexandria. Here's the series topics by number:
1. Stoicism by John Sellars
2. Presocratics by James Warren
3. Cynics by William Desmond
4. Neoplatonism by Pauliina Remes

There are many others forthcoming in this series.
The way these series are written makes you want to read the entire library!

Stoicism by John Sellars
Presocratics by James Warren
Cynics by William Desmond
Neoplatonism by Pauliina Remes

I have added all of these to my Barny Noble wishlist.

PS I can get good touchstones drafting this, but they are unreliable posting.
