I know this isn't really specific to the middle ages, but the european history course I took last year got me fascinated with the Magyars of Hungary and eager to learn more - but
it's kind of a specialized subject and I'm not sure where to look for information. Could anyone recommend a book dealing with this subject? A general overview would be ideal.

Not the Magyars specifically, but Realm of St Stephen is worth a look

I didn't know that Blackwell's Peoples of Europe series included one on the Mongols, but it popped up when I typed in the series name here. I have several others, all by different authors, and they are all very good--quite thorough and readable at the same time.

Yes, but as far as I'm aware they don't have a volume on the Magyars (yet).

p.s. : There is The Magyars in the Ninth Century by C.A. Macartney (Cambridge UP) which should be good - but I haven't actually had my hands on a copy, so...

You could also check Hungarians and Europe in the Early Middle Ages: An Introduction to Early Hungarian History, by Andras Rona-Tas.

I'll second this. Parts 3 and 4 - basically the second half (last 170 pages) of the book - deals extensively with the Magyrs.

Good book - which I just realized I haven't entered on here. One of these days I'll catch all the strays.
