I read this with intense interest. I have more or less given up biographies of anyone I like, for all the reasons the article states. Did I need to know that Doris Lessing, for instance, abandoned two tiny children to give herself the freedom to write? It ruined her entire body of work for me, because that body of work was achieved at the expense of children.
Taylor seems to have been a devoted mother, and if her real husband was anything like the men in her novels I can dismiss his feelings. But dovegreyreader hints at other 'secrets'. I want to know what they were but given that Beauman herself seems ashamed of having unearthed them, how can I read the book with a clear conscience?
