The ultimate novel set in Oslo would probably be Hunger by Nobel laureate Knut Hamsun, although the city was actually called Christiania at the time: "All of this happened while I was walking around starving in Christiania - that strange city no one escapes from until it has left its mark on him."

A recent Norwegian bestseller is The Half Brother by Lars Saabye Christensen, who also wrote Beatles, both of which are Oslo novels.

The Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbø give great detail on the city and its neighbourhoods. The last one I read, Sorgenfri is a fun and entertaining read.
