Includes games.

This may seem redundant, but would roleplaying games also fall under this category? Sports and Recreation seem to denote a certain level of physicality.

It's Sports *and* Recreation so I think that role-playing games fit under the recreation side.

If that were true, then I'd be able to argue that crafts and hobbies should be in this category, too. ;) Or at least the hobbies part.

>5 jjwilson61: I just think that as a category, if such things as an RPG were to be included as recreation, there is a lot of overlap, as hobbies would be considered a form of recreation as that is the main purpose of engaging in most hobbies.

In any case, on another note, I went on over to wikipedia just to look up sports and holy frijole!! There is a huge list there ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports ) which is probably a good starting point for secondary classification within this category. An interesting question came to me at first glance. Should dance be included in this category? Some people would probably argue that it belongs more properly under art, but this is another subset that would seem to lend it self to both groups. Also, how detailed do we want the listings to be? I mean, do we really want to include Dodgeball as a sub-subheading under Catch games?

How many books are written exclusively about Dodgeball? We probably don't need to get that specific.

Do you mean that dance as performance would go in Performing Arts while dance as something people do as a recreation go here?

Speaking as a person who dances in performance for recreation :-)

I agree with Kawika that Hobbies and recreation have too much overlap. Theoretically one could make a distinction between competitive recreations (games and sports) and non-competitive recreations (hobbies and crafts), but I'm not sure I like hobbies being in with crafts at all. If the hobbie is a craft (like knitting) it can go with craft, otherwise it should just be in recreation.

You would be amazed what people can get competitive about. And by the way, also what people take up as hobbies.
