I'm interested in reading novels with documents in them. For example Carol Sheilds' The Stone Diaries which has photos in it, or Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe which has a map in it.
Does anyone know of any more?

Lord of the Rings has not only several maps but also appendices on the history of Middle Earth, the languages, and many other interesting things. In fact, most self-respecting fantasy books have maps.

The Andromeda Strain has computer generated maps detailing the dispersal of the virus. At the time the book was written it was fascinating, now they might look a bit prehistoric.

Novels containing maps of real places would be an enormous undertaking! Nearly every war novel has a map in it. Dell paperbacks had a mapback series, now highly collectible. I think a collection of books of made up places would be very interesting though.

Hunter S. Thompson often includes faxes and letters in his novels. Photos too, sometimes!

Umberto Eco's recent The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana had a ton of documents pictured throughout the text. Basically, it is about a man who is trying to regain his memory and his past by sorting through the ephemera of his youth. So there are photos, documents, sheet music, comics, etc. Not his best, but okay.
