Hi happyone & nice to meet you. I went to have a quick peek at your library, but didn't make it past your profile photo....what beautiful shelves and what a lovely room! No wonder you're so cheerful :0)

I'm back from sneaking a peek at your profile, muddy21 made me do it. That is a lovely room. Not too hard to be happy surrounded with books. I will need to look at your library some more but if the 90 books we have in commen is any indication I think I will like the rest.

I have just moved so I no longer have that library. I guess I should change the picture. I am getting rid of a lot of books and just keeping the ones I really like and want to read again.

Had to get verizon to transfer internet service to the new house and it did NOT go smoothly and had no internet for a few weeks. So nice to get back again.

I have read some books in the meantime.
1. The Accidental Mother by Rowan Coleman. I really liked this book.

2. The Railway Children by N. Nesbit. A childrens book that I enjoyed reading. It was a Hallmark movie that I watched on television some years ago.

3. The Indwelling and
4. The Mark by Tim Lahaye. They are part of the Left Behind Series. Though I like the books I think they are a bit drawn out and the story could have been told with a few less books.

5. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. Have seen a few versions of the movie but this was the first time reading it.

6. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. This was a book that I thought I had read before, but after starting it realized that I never did. I liked it a lot.

7happyone
Feb 6, 2009, 1:18 pm

7. Kidnapped by Robert Lois Stevenson. A great adventure book. David is kidnapped, sent to sea, fights for his life, is ship wrecked and finds his way back home.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.

8suslyn
Feb 6, 2009, 9:49 pm

I couldn't finish the Lahaye series. It felt like it slipped into headlines rather than storytelling. I did enjoy bits of the first couple a lot though.

Glad you're enjoying your way through Stevenson... might have to pick some up :)

I tried reading The Master of Ballantrae by Stevenson as well but just couldn't get into it so I've given up on it.
I just started reading a book by Joyce Carol Oates called I'll Take You There.

10Prop2gether
Feb 12, 2009, 11:56 am

I've managed to get about one-third of the way through The Master of Ballantrae and found myself irritated at not finishing, but not really interested in reading the rest. The story just sort of paused for me. However, I did enjoy Kidnapped, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and others. So maybe it's just not the right time for me to read this book.

Books 9, 10, & 11 are
The Bobbsey Twins on a House Boat by Laura Lee Hope. It's the 6th in the series. I've read all of these from the library when I was a little girl and now have a collection of them. Every once in a while I read one of. Yes, they are corny but they bring back memories. :-)

The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling. Five tales told to little wizards and witches with commentary by Albus Dumbledore. A cute little book for Harry Potter Fans.

Your Heart Belongs to Me by Dean Koontz. Ryan is rich, young, and thinks healthy, but he has a heart problem and needs a heart transplant. Strange things happen to him and it isn't till the end of the book that he learns a lesson. Good and a page turner for me. Koontz is one of my favorite authors.

I've just finished reading book number 12 towards my 75 goal.
My Husband's Sweethearts by Bridget Asher.
Lucy's husband is dying and she finds his little black book with his past and present girlfriends numbers in it. She calls them up and invites them to say their final good by to Artie. The book at times funny, sad, and tender and surprising.
I thought it was a great book and loved it!!

15. Angels All Over Town by Luanne Rice.

16. Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer.
The third in the twilight series. Another page turner but I didn't think it was quite as good as the first two.

22cal8769
Apr 17, 2009, 9:27 am

Everyone I talked to said that Eclipse was the worst of the series. I thought so too, but never fear, I hear that the fourth is the best. I have it here somewhere but have been putting it off.

Apr 17, 2009, 10:24 am

I also heard that Eclipse is the worst book of the series. I still need to start with Twilight, so I don't know what to think about it yet.

Of the first three, I liked the first one the best.

25dk_phoenix

Apr 20, 2009, 7:22 am

I liked the first one best too, but they second was also very good, third good but not as good. I am going to start the fourth one Breaking Dawn later today.

Book number 17 for this year is
A Week in December by Marcia Willet.
Set in England, Maudie is selling on old country home. A few people are interested in buying it. The book has a few different stories going on the bring you back and forth from the past to the present. Great characters that I feel I know. I thought the book was very good and look forward to reading more of this author. This I think was her first book.

Book #19
Freaky Green Eyes by Joyce Carol Oates.
Franky a 14 year girl, tells the story of the breakup of her family. It is a book for young adults but one I thought was very good for any age. It is a bit depressing which I find all of Oates books to be, but this one has some happy moments in it too and I like the ending.

Book #20
Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer
The fourth and last book in the twilight series. I thought it was a good book but ran on at times a bit and I feel could have been shorted considerably. I liked the ending but of all four books I thought the first one Twilight, was the best of them by far.

Didn't quite make the 75 challenge this year. I am just coming home from a 12 day cruise and thought I'd read a couple of books during that. I kept busy and never did read.
I try the 75 book challenge again for 2010!
