Carolyn Hart's Newest: Disappointing

I was really looking forward to Carolyn Hart's newest series featuring a mystery solving ghost. The first is called Ghost at Work. I was disappointed, I have to say. There were just too many inconsistencies plus there was a general lack of charm. I think the idea was a good one, but sadly the execution left me feeling cheated. It almost feels like she rushed through the book. If that is the case for the first of the series, it doesn't bode well for what follows. bummer

Sorry to hear that you did not like it, ToReadToNap. I was looking forward to picking it up. I will probably still give it a try at some future point, but my library does not have it in yet, so it may be a while.

I gave up on Carolyn Hart in general quite a while ago.

I found that she was getting very repetitive, and I got bored with her characters. I find that this is not unusual in a mystery (or, indeed, other genre) series. If the author doesn't develop her characters, they get stale. I have to hand it to Julie Smith in this regard. Just as I was thinking that the Skip Langdon series was getting a bit over the top, she took a minor character from those books, Talba Wallis, and created a new series that is (so far) great.

lilith, that seems absolutely to be the case. It gets tiresome unless the author knows how to mature the characters and/or bring minor characters to the forefront. I never got tired of the Mrs. Pollifax series...each one was a new adventure and Mrs. Pollifax herself grew. I miss Dorothy Gilman. M.C. Beaton on the other hand, whose earlier books I love, seems only fresh in her newest series written as Marian Chesney. Another cozy series that has stayed fresh, in my opinion, is the Deborah Knott series by Margaret Maron.

And one last note, I miss the Fremont Jones series by Dianne Day. That was still fresh and I was looking forward to more from that spunky heroine.
