Is this okay to do? I know that we have a "pimp your inventory" thread where you can highlight what you've got in your inventory, which is great, but I was thinking let's have a separate thread for deals since you can't really read the forums easily to look for them.

Sounds like a good idea, janmpb.

I will refund a point to any Canadian moochers since it really isn't that much more expensive to send things up to the "Great White North".

Deals deals deals!

Ongoing 2-for-1 on all paperbacks (including Sweet Valley, Dawson's Creek, lots of misc YA fiction, etc etc)

Ongoing 3-for-1 on all Ann M. Martin (BabySitters Club) books

Limited time (not sure how long) 3-for-2 on hardback Nancy Drews.

I'm open to 2-for-1 on some hardbacks, too, if they aren't too heavy.

(worldwide, next shipping date end of month, internationals may be delayed further)

I'm happy to give 2 for 1 if you mention you are from LT in the request. I'll smooch you back for the second one. USA only.

I've had a 'too political for a Status Message' special offer going on for a while. I listed it on my Bio Page (rather than status message) since I didn't want to offend anyone.

It's for Obama fans --

Mooch a book, and I'll send a big blue Obama lapel sticker (if you let me know that you want one).

Mooch two, and you can request a bumper sticker instead.

http://www.bookmooch.com/m/bio/fullmoonblue

Fired up! :-)

Great idea! I have a bizarre conflagration of hand-me-down books pining to move to a new home...

If you're on LibraryThing:
- USA: mooch 2 books, I'll smooch you 2 points back
- International: mooch 2 books, I'll smooch you 1 point back

Not only that, but I commit, here in front of all of you, that any books mooched in the next 72 hours will be mailed by Wednesday night (normally I'm a 10 days to 2 weeks poster). Ooooh - aaaaah!

Okay Fullmoonblue I'm going for the bumper sticker! I just mooched 2 books and I'll put the bumper sticker in with my husband's birthday present ( a book of course) and he will be very happy!

Thanks, Starfishian. I've just mooched two more of those O'flanagan books.

I still have a 2-1 deal on all mystery paperbacks, and will be adding some more of that genre tonight.

I've also started shipping internationally on a trial basis! Canadian and Mexican mooches always accepted, but there may be some delays/rejections on heavier books outside N. America.

question about a "deal" I mooched a book from someone and noticed a twofer one point offer, so I browsed and mooched another.
They were sent, but no point was given back. I feel funny about mentioning it, but I wouldn't have mooched the second book without the offer having been stated. What would you do?

17atimco
Ago 24, 2008, 1:33 pm

Check your spam box first... that happened to me and I sent the person a friendly reminder, only to see later that she had offered me an alternate deal and it ended up in my spam.

There's nothing wrong with a friendly reminder though. Just reply with a "thank you" and ask when you should expect to receive the point back on the transaction.

good idea ww :)

16 -- I agree with wisewoman. If I ever forgot to credit someone a point, I'd be absolutely mortified and would *want* them to remind me!! Truly!

21mckait
Ago 25, 2008, 8:34 pm

well, I did remind him. It resulted in him changing his profile to say that he weill be suspending his mooching due to circumstances, and that he will give back points soon. He is moving.

Now, seriously. Why not just do it when he came in to post that?
oh well..

I think you need a 'nice' story. :)
So, months and months ago, somebody mooched a book from me, when I accepted I told them that I had a second book that was on their wl that I had just finished and if they wanted it, I'd include it. They accepted happily and mooched me a point.
So, today I received an email that this nice person had posted a book that I've been trying to get for months that has 70 people wishing for it and they recommended and reserved it for me! Months and months later they remembered some little nice thing I did for them and returned the favor.
Awwww, it's just so NICE!!!

23janmpb
Ago 25, 2008, 9:29 pm

25mckait
Ago 26, 2008, 5:37 pm

That is nice!

I received the books from the moocher mentioned above. They are in poor condition. I am not happy.

I feel sorry for him because he has had some stuff going on in his life, but these books were listed well before that happened.

I haven't marked them received yet. I am mulling this over.

26infiniteletters
Ago 26, 2008, 7:38 pm

25: They should be marked received. The feedback is up to you, but you did technically get them.

27mint910
Ago 27, 2008, 9:23 am

22- I had to go see what the book was and yay for that! I actually mooched a copy of that book a few months ago, I didn't believe it until it was in my hands! I was so happy to receive it!

I find lots of good things on the weekend early in the morning. That's the one positive thing about waking up at the crack of dawn when you really want to be sleeping ;)

28mckait
Ago 27, 2008, 7:07 pm

listen.... I will mark them .... I believe I am entitled to think over the feedback, as he has not only take down his inventory, but one of the books has a very strong odor...

I would never fail to mark them.

Ok. I had to take a look... This is a weird situation. He has plenty of points.... Sending the email would have been more work than smooching the points back.

30mckait

exactly... I am baffled.

I emailed him again.. if not sorted by morning I will follow through and give him the 0, I think?

#30 One of the books was published in 1960. Although he should have mentioned something, did you really expect it to be in excellent condition? I think if you are that worried about the condition, ask, especially with older books like that.

I feel sorry for him. This looks like a hard time for him.

32mckait
Ago 28, 2008, 7:55 pm

He had posted that all books were in very good to good condition.

Old books are fine... I have lots of old books..

smelly books not so much.

He changed his whole profile comment ...

Ahhh--clears things up. Yes, mckait, if he wrote that on his comments I wouldn't have thought to ask either.

Quite nice of him, but proves that it pays to talk things out ..

After I go through my children's books I may be offering a 2 for one point. Mooch 2 thin children's books and I'll smooch one point back. I need my DD to purge out the books she doesn't want before I make this deal. I can mail out 2 thin books for what one normal size one would cost. I'd like to see these go to good homes.

Not sure if I am allowed to post this offer in this thread, so feel free to ask me to take it down:

**I was given an entire estate of books, on the condition that I do not sell them for profit. (The former owners approved book trading whole-heartedly). Therefore, I am uploading them to Bookmooch regardless of retail price. One of the books I uploaded to BookMooch already had a $66 value and is on 2 wishlists; another book ranged in price up to $350. So keep a close eye on these vintage books!

I'm not sure how much of a "deal" this is but I have several books listed on BM that are in less than customary condition (written in, heavily creased, water damage, whatever). I specify (and detail) that they are DAMAGED in the condition notes - these books are FREE with any other mooch (i.e. I will smooch points back). My rationale: if someone wants to read a book before they commit to spending an actual point on a "to keep" copy, then they could test-run my copy and throw it away. The book gets one more use before it takes up space in a landfill and someone gets a "free trial." I have mentally committed to NEVER spending the (fractional) points associated with listing these "damaged goods." If they sit on BM long enough (or I need the space) I will remove them from my inventory and "release" them via BookCrossing.

(Same ID on BM as LT)
