I've posted this message on the Penguin Books group but it should be of interest here too.

Excellent package arrived in today's post from the PCS. As well as the usual new edition of The Penguin Collector there were two other publications - Penguin Classics and Penguin Days.

The former is a review of the series and involved personalities with a checklist up to No. 250. It is lavishly illustrated with cover pictures and a full list of the cover roundels from the first series.

The latter is a compilation of the memoirs of Tanya Schmoller (previously printed in The Penguin Collector 55 - 60) who was Allen Lane's secretary, working at Penguin Books from 1945 for many years.

For Penguin afficionados, these two paperbacks alone must be worth the subscription (£16 for UK members at present).

On a quick flick through The Penguin Collector an article by a bookseller about current problems with Abebooks caught my eye - if you use that site this article (assuming it is correct) might save you the sub several times over.

What issue of Penguin collector is the article about Abe books? I am a PCS member and am interested in prices at Abe's as I think they have been too high for way too long. cheers

Desperately seeking a copy of Speedy Death Penguin first published in order to help someone finish their first 1000 first published book collection. It is the only book needed. Not many people in the world have the first 1000 numbered first published Penguins. Anyone have one (no reprints or second/third impressions, must be first published Penguin) they could negotiate parting with? thanks TPH
