I hope it is okay to start a discussion on the second installment of the Twilight-series, New Moon.

For those who missed out on the discussion of the first installment, Twilight, here is the link: http://www.librarything.com/talktopic.php?topic=35696

Of course: here there be spoilers!

I liked this book, but not as much as the first. Edward is quite different from the Edward in the first book, and I didn't like this 'new' Edward a bit.

I also have my issues with Bella in this one. She came across a smart, intelligent girl who is responsible. In this book she looses that. Already from the start she senses something is wrong and when indeed something is wrong, she goes into zombie-mode.

About Jacob: didn't like him a bit. At first I thought he could be a healthier choice for Bella, but after becoming a werewolf his personality changed for the worse. I guess you could call Edward obsessive, but surely Jacob! He is trying to force her into a relationship with him, something Edward didn't do. I haven't read Eclipse yet, but I am afraid it will make me dislike Jacob more.

Positive points of the book:

- When Alice and Bella decide to go to Italy. From this point the book doesn't drag on. And Stephenie seems to get her style of writing back, what kinda lacked in the previous chapters.
- the Volturi, I found them quite interesting. And Edward becomes the old Edward again, although slowly
- voting about changing Bella. I love Edwards reaction, it really suits him. But later he gives in a bit to easily, methinks. He ain't gonna do it I tell ya!

Comments? thoughts?

i have not read any of the twilight books.but i want to buy them but it would be helpful if anybody just gave me a plot overview without spoilers.......

IMHO, no it is not as good as HP. I've only read them once so I won't attempt a spoiler free description.

SPOILERS AHEAD

The thing that annoyed me in this book was Bella's willingness to believe that Edward just stopped loving her. It was a typical plot device and it always bugs me.

I was so-so on the zombie thing. I have had a similar emotional blow and it was tempting to hide inside myself. I didn't, but then I was older than Bella and was in better control of my emotions. (Hormones were done with me!)

I like Jacob. I think he was good for her. I can completely understand why he changed when he did. You probably won't like him in Eclipse either though. I wouldn't date either one of them.

Saify, I don't have a spoiler-free summery, but they are very different books than Harry Potter, and don't necessarily appeal to the same people. I would read the first one before buying them.

I loved all three books.. the real downer for me was New Moon.. I have been in the situation Bella was and I was definatly in Zombie mode because I was about that age... so i can understand it... i think Jacob was healthy for her but i also did not like him because of the fact he was trying to compete with edward... I have got to do a reread of these!

I can completely see Bella going through this stage. She thinks that her world has ended. I was disappointed that it took her a long time to get going again. I agree that we need more heroines in books that pick themselves up and keep going.

Ms Bella, I went through zombie mode, too, but I was in my twenties. I truly believe that certain loves are deeper than age, and that anyone who says otherwise just didn't have the ---- privilege? burden? ---- of experiencing one for him- or herself.

I agree with you laia.. age is just a number! It doesn't matter how young or old you are what matters is the feelings you have and how you feel.

#8, Kirby, read The Goblin Wood by Hilari Bell if you get a chance. Good, strong heroine. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the book.

The Volturi were my favorite part of this book, I think, but I also need to do a reread. I'm waiting for it to come in on hold at the library. Christmas should come faster so someone can get them for me.

Jacob makes a great friend for Bella, but I do wish he'd take her seriously and stop pursuing a romantic relationship.

#14 - I agree with you.

I liked this book because it gives the series more depth.
I liked how the book draws you in because you want to know what is going to happen next.
I too cried when Edward left Bella

I liked the movie for this book, because it shows the book well I thought. Especially the part after Edward left Bella, and she was like a zombie for months afterwards.

I really believed in this book that Bella should have gone with Jacob only because if she was so willing to believe Edward didn't love her then did she ever really believe it was real ?!?! I just never really got over that yea know? And she never gave up on Jacob when he turned into a wolf she kept trying and trying.... anyone else saw it the way I did???

i personally believed that new moon was the weakest book of the four. i thought that it lost some pizazz when edward left.

I couldn't agree more! It was boring without Edward. The part where he left made me clueless.
