Did anyone watch Eurovision?

I voted for Israel but got quite fond of this guy from Spain, here with the original video of his entry.

I did watch it, and I think we got a bit of a raw deal, really - we weren't the worst by any means... ah well, it's all just a bit of fun :-)

You know I didn't even realise it was on LOL. I was reading so the real world kind of fades into the background.

That's the first time I've seen Eurovision described as 'the real world.' This year was truly terrible.

I loved the French entries backing dancers with thier false beards and the singer with the giant fishbowl (?) too.

Worst tv for ages, I loved every second.

Jody - Now you're making me wish I'd seen it! I think I might go and look on You Tube they're sure to have posted some of the worst/best bits.

I forget which country had the washing line up and the four brides standing next to it knitting while the male and female lead singers ran about like mad people but I liked them too. What country was that?

Everybody got some points this year, even the UK - we came last or, as the BBC preferred to call it, joint 23rd. THere's a lot of complaints in the press that the voting is political but what can you do? The UK had a man that even we didn't vote for when he was on the X Factor and Russia had thier most popular male singer whose music is produced by Timbaland, so that might have had something to do with us losing so badly too. Being rubbish and coming last is part of the fun.

I can't remember which country had the washing line but I liked it (was it Bosnia-Herz...?). I also liked the Finnish heavy metal and the Croatian old-style smoky bar music. The Russian one was OK-ish, but of the other non-freaky songs I'd have rated Norway, Albania, or Turkey higher.

El Chiki Chiki got automatic entry to the final, as did the German, French and UK entries because those four countries bankroll the event.

The bride song was Bosnia and along with France was the best song in the contest.

The voting is now farcical but no-one has come up with an viable alternative. The problem facing the event is that the big four are getting tired of doing nothing in the contest because of friendly voting - in the UK there have been calls to withdraw because it is now seen as a waste of time. If one of the big four withdraw then the others will probably follow and the event will be stranded without it's major backers.

Actually all this fuss in the UK is making me feel like we are poor losers.

So we lost...again. We weren't the best, a few more votes would have been nice but that's life really. It's not the end of the world. I know it's more politically based than talent based at the moment but even so, it was a fun nights entertainment and I like to see the songs the other countries have chosen to represent themselves with.

Maybe we should enter that football song next time, the one that goes "no-one likes us, we don't care." :-)

If Terry Wogan does leave the contest though, who could replace him? I would hate to see him go but think Harry Hill is the only possible person to take over (even though he does work for ITV). They are talking about Graham Norton (might be good) or Jonathan Ross (nonononononono!) as replacements already.

The replacement for Wogan should be Paddy Connor who does the semi and knows what he is talking about, and is sharper than Wogan anyway. Wogan should be put out to grass years ago but he won't leave, not when he gets £150k for it.

The UK song wasn`t my type of thing, but I don`t recall any I thought were better.

However, I refuse to discuss the Eurovision in serious terms - this isn`t the Pros and Cons group you know, we don`t have to get obsessional !

I actually quite liked the Finnish rock band, which worried me a bit. However, the only really interesting ones were the truly bizarre and/or awful ones. It always interests me how the more bizarrely staged ones are usually the most musically conservative (the French guy with his golf buggy, bearded girl backing singers and transparent ball/globe was a case in point). I`m told there was one sung by a warbling-devil-and-angel-with-wings that was both musically weird and strangely staged - I missed that bit.

Wogan makes me laugh, but if he has to go, there`s always Brian Blessed.

I voted for Bosnia Herzegovina as I thought it was a good song, whatever you thought of the brides and washing line. I have to say that I like the odd ones best and they are so much more interesting to watch.

It is a load of tosh, but I think Jody's suggestion of Harry Hill as a replacement for Wogan is brilliant - I'd watch if he was doing it.
