Eskimo goes out hunting

Fiction. Protagonist has a young wife and either a baby or a baby on the way. They are out of food. He goes out hunting with a rifle and gets into trouble with the freezing cold. bare hand sticks to the rifle barrel. He must urinate on his hand to use the rifle.

Read in the late 1960s. Read it in Junior high, Houston, Texas.

Setting is possibly Alaska or the Yukon.

Maybe Nanook of the North - an adaptation of the film of the same name.
The movie was released in 1922. The book, and variations of the book have been released multiple times since then.
