Reps. Comer and Jordan Hold News Conference on Biden Family Investigation

Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the incoming House Oversight Committee chair, outlined a Republican investigation into Hunter Biden and the Biden family during a press conference on Capitol Hill. Rep. Comer said this investigation is not about Hunter Biden, but an investigation of President Biden as he alleged the president was directly involved in questionable business deals and financial transactions with foreign countries and companies. Also appearing was Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who promised to investigate reported political activity to the Justice Department.

The Republican House will pretty much all have to stick together to impeach Joe Biden because they don't have much as far as a margin. But there is that possibility. Whether Joseph has been committing financial crimes I'm kind of doubtful but even if I doubt even more it would be anywhere near egregious as much of what the Donald has pulled. All that said let's say they do impeach Mr. Biden.

Good job then. Stuck together and hooray!!! Still the House impeaches and the Senate convicts. Say Sen. Schumer wipes his ass with the impeachment documents and flushes it down the toilet. In other words just shitcans it. Doesn't even give it the time of day. Lets it sit on his desk kind of like McConnell did with Merrick Garland's nomination for the Supreme Court. Even if Schumer does give it the time of day there's no way the Senate is going to come to even close to the 60 or so votes to convict and it will be time for Republican partisans to know just what it's like to impeach a POTUS and not be able to remove him.....otherwise known as an exercise in futility. Maybe it's all about TV ratings though. Maybe they think some of us are going to be glued to our television sets watching the likes of Jim Jordan (the pedophile enabler) perorate endlessly on conspiracy theory---laptops and pizzagate. Sorry....not during hockey season and I take summers off from most television.

The taint of the Trump era continues to stick to most House GOPers like tar. The cancer has metastasized in their bodies, and there is no Chemo that can extinguish it.

>2 lriley: I think the main goal of impeaching Biden is not to remove him from office, but to remove some of the curse from Trump's impeachments. The idea being to give the morons of the world a talking point - "so what if Trump was impeached? So was Biden!". Nobody will take it seriously, and that's sort of the point.

It also serves as a bloody shirt to wave at their Trump-loyalist base. Kind of like the imbecile Republican Congressthing that marked Pelosi's long-planned retirement from the speaker's chair as a victory ("Promises made, promises kept", he tweeted - in other words, he'd promised that she would do what she'd been planning to do for years, and that happened). Utterly idiotic, but apparently it's pleasing to the imbecile contingent.

>4 kiparsky: They have the gavel and will do what they are going to do though. The thing for me is whether or not there’s anything credible and I don’t see anything that really rises to the level of any number of Trumpian crimes. If they think all this is going to be enough to appeal to or appease their base…..

There doesn’t seem to me to be any interest in really governing which has become par for their course. Instead of making the lives of those they represent better they’d rather give their base supporters a third rate circus. 2024 is a presidential election year and the more fucked up their two years is the better the chance that the Democrats take back the House. The Republicans have a very slim majority. If they are smart they need to govern—they should look to work with democrats to show they can get things done. If their main concern is revenge I don’t think they’ll have the majority very long. So by all means let them be stupid.

Sounds like WH has been preparing. Won't duck like TFG. Remember Hillary sitting 14 h for Benghazi hearing? I can't imagine Biden has her stamina, though... He might just snap if Rs subject him of hours of attacks on his son... (Who wouldn't?)

US midterms: Lauren Boebert's Democratic challenger concedes
Holly Honderich | 18 Nov 2022

...The surprisingly tight House contest is still expected to head to a recount.

...Speaking on Friday, 10 days after last week's midterm elections, Democrat Adam Frisch, 55, told supporters that he did not expect a recount to help him overtake Ms Boebert, a Republican.

"It would be disingenuous and unethical for us, or any other group, to continue to raise false hope and to encourage fundraising for a recount," he said.

"Please, save your money for your groceries, your rent, your children."

...The fight over Colorado's third congressional district had widely been expected to be a cakewalk for Ms Boebert, 35, a Donald Trump loyalist from the hard right wing of her party.

Her district, which covers almost all of Colorado's western half, is staunchly conservative...The constituency has become even more red since Ms Boebert was first elected in 2020, thanks to a recent round of redistricting. Polling site FiveThirtyEight put her odds of an election victory at 97%...

>6 margd: I suspect that Biden's really enjoying the lather that people are working up over his supposed frailty and decline, but I wouldn't advise giving those memes any credibility. The idea that people suddenly become incapable once a twenty-year-old virgin in his parents' basement decides to make a clip suggesting that they're "old" is probably not very correct.

I probably wouldn't put money on Biden in a boxing ring at his age, but if you want someone to face down a bunch of ill-prepared Q-tards who believe their own propaganda, he'll wipe the floor with them.

My advice: Watch the news, ignore the twitter.

Sinema switches to independent, shaking up the Senate
Burgess Everett | 12/09/2022

Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is changing her party affiliation to independent, delivering a jolt to Democrats’ narrow majority and Washington along with it.

...the first-term senator told POLITICO that she will not caucus with Republicans and suggested that she intends to vote the same way she has for four years in the Senate...

Provided that Sinema sticks to that vow, Democrats will still have a workable Senate majority in the next Congress... They’re expected to also have the votes to control Senate committees. And Sinema’s move means Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) — a pivotal swing vote in the 50-50 chamber the past two years — will hold onto some but not all of his outsized influence in the Democratic caucus...

Sinema would not address whether she will run for reelection in 2024...

The Trump era has actually been very good for the Dems and for America ~ while GOPers were taking a detour following Donald down the rabbit hole, the never-ceasing brown demographic wave has been moving up the voting-age brackets at a steady pace.

Historic Footnote to today’s Speaker vote:
The last time Congress needed more than one vote to pick a speaker was 1923: Republicans went 9 rounds to pick Frederick Huntington Gillet. The longest speaker showdown was in 1855, lasting 2 months and requiring 133 rounds of votes.

In Cdn and UK parliaments, the speakers are apolitical.
(Years ago I asked Cdn MP, then-speaker, for something in a bill. He couldn't advocate for it, but somehow his fellow MPs delivered.

The Speaker of the House is speaker of the whole House, elected by the whole House. It's a Constitutional office. An election denier shouldn't be Speaker. After a few rounds today, Dems and some Reps should join to elect a non-election-denying Republican.

Should an Election Denier Be Speaker of the House?
The Constitution matters more than Kevin McCarthy.

>28 margd: That non election denying republican I'm afraid would incur the wrath of his/her entire party. Not just the far far right maniacs either. The other thing is the speaker is charged with setting legislative agenda. Despite the nonsense that Steve Scalise has been spewing the GOP is not all that interested it would seem in legislation so much as holding hearings to attack certain political enemies. What Scalise has in mind for actual legislation is not going to make it through the Senate or past Biden's veto pen simply because Scalise is not serious about real everyday issues. Basically he's about cutting programs and pushing a cultural agenda that would take us back to the 1950's. That said that's another reason I find it hard to believe that a couple dozen republican representatives are anywhere near ready to join up with the democratic caucus to put in a moderate non election denying republican. That setting of agenda that the speaker does and the committee assignments etc. are all big perks for their caucus.

I was reading an article a few months back that came with an audio clip. The Boebert's including their children don't seem to be very popular in their small community of Rifle Colorado. They have this 'we own the town' vibe. As well their restaurant went belly up. Anyway the kids are running up and down the roads in their 4 wheelers lickety split as fast as those vehicles will carry them whether or not there are smaller kids and pets about and the neighbors who complain get fucked with. In the audio clip of a 911 call one of them who went to the Boebert's house was chased off the stoop by a drunken Mr. Boebert who then proceeded to attack his property. In the background of the 911 call you can hear this guy (Boebert) yelling a lot as the neighbor describes to the dispatcher Boebert destroying his mailbox. When the dispatcher again asks the caller to tell him who it is---he says 'Boebert. You know, the congressman's husband.' Apparently it's not been the first time this guy had trouble with the congresswoman's family but also he's not the only one. This Boebert is a big guy and he's always drunk and their kids are always running amuck.
